It was the night of the finale at the Mutua Madrid Open 2021. In an exciting clash, World No.7 Aryna Sabalenka defeated Ashleigh Barty in three sets to win the Mutua Madrid Open 2021 title. The final scoreline of the match was 6-0, 3-6, 6-4.

With this win, Sabalenka ended Barty’s 16-match winning streak on red clay. Barty recently defeated Sabalenka in the finals of the WTA Stuttgart Open 2021 title and the Belarusian player surely took her revenge by beating the Australian in the finals of the Mutua Madrid Open 2021.

Set-1: Aryna Sabalenka bagels Ashleigh Barty

Serving first, Aryna Sabalenka didn’t face any difficulty in winning the first game. She broke in the next game and then went on to win the subsequent game as well to establish a 3-0 lead over Ashleigh Barty.

Interestingly, the Belarusian player was clearly in some superb form as if she badly wanted to take the revenge of her last match against Barty. As a result, she broke yet again to take her lead to 4-0 at the end of the fourth game. She managed to win the next game as well and was just one game away from a first-set bagel.

She successfully bageled Barty by breaking for the third time. Thus, she comfortably won the set 6-0 in just 25 minutes.

Set-2: Ashleigh Barty makes a phenomenal comeback

Barty began the set on a high after breaking in the very first game. She went on to extend her lead after winning the next game well. However, Sabalenka bounced back and narrowed down the scoreline to 2-1 in the subsequent game.

Interestingly, Sabalenka broke in the fourth game and equalized the scoreline at 2-2. Barty was in some real trouble and she had to do something to take the match into the next set. She fought back and broke again to take her lead to 3-2. The Australian won the next game too and was now leading 4-3.

Sabalenka bounced back and narrowed down the margin to 4-3 after winning the seventh game. However, Barty was in no position to give away her lead this time. With the help of a beautiful forehand, she won the 8th game and was now just one game away from equalizing the set scoreline.

Barty broke for the third time in the set to clinch the set 6-3. Thus, she managed to make a comeback and was one set away from winning the Mutua Madrid Open 2021 title.

Set-3: The decider

Barty began the set in style after taking the early lead. Sabalenka was surely feeling the pressure and was hitting the net too often. However, Sabalenka didn’t lose her momentum and equalized the scoreline in the next game. Barty struck back again and once again established a 2-1 lead over 2-1 her opponent.

At the end of the fifth game, Barty was again leading 3-2. Even though she earned 2 break-points in the previous game but Sabalenka saved both of them and didn’t allow the World No.1 player to break. The Belarusian managed to win the next game to level the scoreline yet again.

Barty was just not ready to lose from here. She delivered some brilliant skills and yet again took the lead at the end of the seventh set. She tried hard in the next game too but Sabalenka was too dominant on her serve. She broke in the next game and won the subsequent game as well to conquer the set, and thus, won the title as well.
