Coco Gauff is living her dream at this year’s US Open. Despite being stretched against lower-ranked opponents, the American tennis sensation has shown tremendous grit and determination to stay alive in the tournament. She has reached the semifinal stage of the tournament, her best performance at her home Grand Slam tournament.

Ahead of the big last-four clash, Gauff opened up about a precious lesson learned from her family. As her parents were athletes too they had to follow strict rules since her childhood days. Recently, she revealed how it helped her rise in her tennis career.

Before her semifinal match at the US Open, the 19-year-old was involved in an interview with the New York Post. During that interview, she talked about a variety of subjects. However, one particular conversation about her family stood out from the rest.

Talking about how her family has helped keep her down to earth, Gauff mentioned, “It’s important that you really know yourself, because it’s very easy to feed into what you should and shouldn’t do when everyone’s giving their opinions. For the most part, I’ve done well with it … because of my family. They’ve always kept me grounded and always set the importance of my self-worth.”

While her parents were well-known athletes, they made huge sacrifices so that Gauff could pursue her tennis passion. They often accompany her during her tournaments and have been a pillar of support during her good and bad times. She once revealed how the family endured difficulties as her father’s job came to a halt.

When Gauff’s father sacrificed his job

With Gauff following her tennis passion, her father resigned from his job so that he could support and accompany his daughter after seeing her rise in tennis. Opening up about the situation, the tennis star said, “Dad much prefers the lifestyle he has now than his job in corporate America. We didn’t see him much before – he’d come home for weekends, then fly out again.”

Coming to her US Open stint, Gauff will face the challenge of Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic later today. Given the form that she is in and the home crowd behind her, she should come out on top in the last four clashes.
