Belinda Bencic's comeback while breastfeeding—Is she setting a new standard for athlete moms?

Swiss WTA star Belinda Bencic has probably found her rhythm once more. After spending time off the tennis court to embrace a new role, Bencic lost her tune. However, the Swiss player didn’t lose hope and returned to her passion. Taking things slow initially, Bencic revealed her new goal, assuring her supporters of a great surprise in the future.

Bencic has been off the court for a long time. She announced her pregnancy to the media with her partner and fitness coach, Martin Hromkovic, in November 2023. Hoping for their “little mircle,” Bencic shared the news of Bella’s arrival in their life in April 2024. The Swiss WTA star shared an adorable photo of the bundle of joy holding her mother’s finger, and later, when Bencic took her out in a stroller with her dog. While Bencic’s new journey to motherhood delighted the tennis fraternity, everyone was eagerly waiting to see the Swiss WTA star back on the court.

Five months after her daughter’s birth, Bencic revealed her wish to play tournaments again. She said that after two months of childbirth, she began her comeback journey with light exercises. Since then, Bencic has increased the intensity of her practice under the supervision of Martin Hromkovic, her partner and fitness trainer. However, revealing that she is “still breastfeeding” her daughter, Bencic confirmed she is carefully listening to her body. While the Tokyo Olympics champion isn’t sure about her participation in any upcoming tournament, she wishes to play in the 2024 Bille Jean King Cup. A journalist also shared the news on X.

I want to play in the Billie Jean King Cup in November,” Bencic said, expressing her strong desire to perform at the prestigious tournament. This WTA player currently divides her practice into tennis sessions in the morning and fitness sessions in the afternoon. The rest of the time, she is with her daughter Bella.

While there is still uncertainty about when Bencic will return to the professional court, she has an interesting dream. This dream echoes her deep desire to return to the place where she belongs—the tennis court.

This Swiss WTA star is looking forward to gaining experience traveling with family in tournaments. “I need that to be ready for the Australian Open,” she mentioned. Bencic also believes that she “can win a Grand Slam tournament.” While motherhood seemed like an obstacle on the way for many, it was the opposite for Bencic. “I can now separate my private life and my career better, my priority is Bella and tennis is almost secondary. In the past, I often fought against myself on the court. It may be that this will relieve me of some of the pressure,” she said.
