And she hasn’t disappointed them, has she? Owing to her wonderful performances over the past few months, Gauff has become a force to reckon with in women’s tennis. Recently, her father opened up about his expectations of his daughter during her childhood days.

Gauff’s father has supported her to become one of the top tennis players in the world. He used to take little Coco to tennis tournaments across the country during her childhood days. Here’s what he had to say about the belief in Gauff’s game.

An interview featuring Gauff and her father, Corey, was aired on TODAY in the morning segment. During their conversation, they talked about various subjects – from her chances at the Paris Olympics to her off-court activities. Additionally, Gauff’s father also described the expectations he had from his daughter.

Corey Gauff said, “We knew that she would be a good tennis player. She was working really hard. Did we know that they would embrace her in the world like they are? No, we had no clue.”

Gauff and her parents not only have a great parent-child relationship but also consider themselves as close friends. They can be often seen cheering her at the tournaments. The American sensation had a humble upbringing and once described the values she received from her father.

Despite her growing status, Gauff remains down-to-earth

Success so early in their career sometimes leads one to get in over their head, no matter what their field. However, Coco Gauff has kept her feet close to the ground and focused on upcoming tournaments. She imbibed this value from the preaching of her father.

Describing it, Gauff said, “So he always instilled that into me and always instilled how to uplift other people. Because it took, you know, one person to help uplift him and that made a difference in his life which by-product made a difference in my life and maybe I can continue that cycle with some other kid.”

Gauff has every ingredient to become one of the most successful players. It’ll be interesting to see how the year pans out for the reigning US Open champion.
