Even though Beyoncé and Serena Williams have many differences in terms of their professions, they share many similarities in their personal lives. One is a legendary tennis player, while the other is an iconic singer. Beyoncé has 22 Grammy Awards and Serena has 23 Grand Slam singles titles, putting them at the pinnacle of their respective fields. According to Beyoncé, they both experienced similar complications during childbirth.

Beyoncé once revealed that she had complications during childbirth that were similar to those experienced by Serena Williams, who nearly died while giving birth to her daughter, Olympia.

Serena Williams and Beyoncé experienced similar complications during childbirth

When Beyoncé gave birth to twins, she experienced a health scare. She once talked about her pregnancy with twins Rumi and Sir, as well as the complications she experienced during her C-section delivery. She further described her experience with toxemia. Toxemia, also known as preeclampsia, is a pregnancy-related disease that is more common among African-American women.

The iconic popstar said, “Some of your organs are shifted temporarily, and in rare cases, removed temporarily during delivery. I am not sure everyone understands that. I needed time to heal, to recover.”

Beyoncé further added about her recovery by saying, “During my recovery, I gave myself self-love and self-care, and I embraced being curvier. I accepted what my body wanted to be.”

Similarly, Serena Williams underwent an emergency C-section and almost died giving birth to her daughter, Olympia. The American tennis player experienced pulmonary blood clots following the birth of her daughter Olympia. Serena has a history of blood clots and stopped taking her blood-thinning medication in order to help her C-section wound heal.

Olympia paid tribute to her mother’s legacy

Serena Williams’ daughter paid tribute to her mother during the opening round of the US Open. Olympia wore white beads in her hair, just like her mother did when she won her first US Open title in 1999.

She was in the stands with her father, Alexis Ohanian, and wore a sparkly black Nike dress to match her mother. Serena Williams played her final match at the US Open against Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round.

During her post-match speech, the 23-time Grand Slam champion became emotional as the audience gave her a standing ovation. Serena Williams retired as one of the greatest tennis players.
