The Russian former world No. 1 tennis player, Maria Sharapova, reached some great heights as she won 5 Grand Slam titles during her tennis journey. However, Sharapova retired in 2020 after she faced a ban for using a drug during the tour. Since then, she has kept herself busy by focusing on various other fields.

The former Wimbledon champion, Sharapova, has reached the realms of the crypto and blockchain industry. She was spotted at Binance Blockchain Week in Paris where she talked about the growing role of nonfungible tokens (NFTs). Sharapova further talked about her involvement in the popular fields of Web3 and crypto.

Maria Sharapova talked about crypto and Web3

The Cointelegraph recently featured the 5 Grand slam title winner in an interview. She talked about her interest in popular crypto and blockchain technology. Sharapova further stated that it was a great platform to engage with many fans around the globe. During the interview, the interviewer asked about her plans to involve more women in popular crypto and blockchain technology.

Sharapova answered by stating, “I want to allow women to have a space where they experiment with Web3. For example, I was 17 when I won my first grand slam and social media was in no way part of that experience. It took years for me to get comfortable with social media over time.”

The former Russian tennis player, Sharapova, defeated Serena Williams at Wimbledon in 2004. It was her first Grand Slam title at a very young age.

Sharapova further stated, “I think Web3 is also an area where one has to get out there in order to learn and grow from it. As I mentioned earlier, the conversation about money, finance, crypto and blockchain is a taboo conversation.”

She further urged people to get involved in the fields of crypto and blockchain. Sharapova also stated that if people start asking more questions about this popular field, they will learn more about it and get involved.

Sharapova talked about the Ukraine crisis

The 5 Grand Slam title winner, Maria Sharapova is quite active on her social media. She uses the platform to talk about various political and social issues. Sharapova previously voiced her opinion on the ongoing crisis in Ukraine. She expressed her sympathies toward the families and children who were affected by the crisis.

Sharapova further stated that the images surfacing on social media have made her deeply sad. The former tennis player also donated to the Save the Children campaign.
