Did Jozy Altidore set the bar too high for marriage proposals with his perfect plan for Sloane Stephens?

Much power to Sloane Stephens and her husband Jozy Altidore! After all, they are a power couple who have successfully found comfort in each other’s arms. While every romance has an intriguing story to it, the one behind the sport’s stars is certainly head-turning. From setting the perfect stage to going down on one knee, soccer player Altidore perfected his every move that led to their marriage.

During an exclusive interview with ‘Vogue’, the striker, who last played club soccer for New England Revolution, notably laid bare how he proposed to the former World No. 3 in an exciting fashion. Altidore managed to stupefy her with an unexpected turnaround at an art gallery, wherein he told Stephens he was looking to buy some projects. Instead, the tennis star found herself surrounded by friends and family at the premises, wherein the 34-year-old “popped the question” that changed the couple’s life forever.

“We went to church in L.A. and then I made up an excuse telling Sloane that I wanted to check out a painting at an art gallery that I saw on Instagram and was thinking of buying. When we got to the gallery, it was filled with her family and friends and instead of paintings, the gallery was decorated with massive canvases of photos from our relationship and all the people who have played a role in Sloane’s life up to this point. It was cool that all the people in the photos were surrounding us when I popped the question,” Altidore revealed.

Later, while speaking to the outlet, an amazed Stephens stated she “should have known” of his proposal idea knowing he never showcased much interest in art to begin with. “Jozy was acting nervous, and he’s definitely not an art gallery kind of guy, but when we walked in and I saw everyone, I was completely blown away! It was so surreal when he got down on one knee.”

A relatively private couple, the duo tied the knot at the St. Regis Bal Harbour in Miami Beach, Florida, on New Year’s Day in 2022. However, their occasional social media posts often dictate their support for each other, the latest of which came at the hands of Altidore.
