It’s been some time since the Japanese tennis star decided to stay away from competitive tennis owing to her maternity break. While embarking on her new journey of motherhood, the 4-time singles Grand Slam champion hasn’t forgotten about her noble off-court initiatives regarding mental health and kids.
Talking about it, Osaka recently opened up about how her first child will surely be proud of these endeavors. Here’s what the former world No. 1 player has to say about being the ‘best version’ of herself for her baby.
Naomi Osaka wants to make her child proud

The Japanese star was recently featured in an interview with PEOPLE in which she detailed her new project, in collaboration with Modern Health. Having struggled with mental health issues of her own, Naomi Osaka is quite concerned about the younger generation, especially kids who might be going through such problems. The former Australian Open champion has taken up endeavors that will help children learn about mental health and wellness.
The WTA player previously used her platform to shed light on her mental health struggles when she announced her withdrawal from the French Open due to the issues she had been facing. Osaka now is quite empathetic towards others who are facing such problems as she wants to ensure that they have access to medications to help them build healthy habits. She also believes that such projects and initiatives are something that her child will be grow up to be proud of.

Osaka said, “Obviously, I’ve never been a mother before so I’m taking it day-by-day and just trying to be someone that my son or daughter will be proud of.”
Evidently, while the former world No. 1 wants to be the best version of herself for her kid, she is still a bit nervous about her parental role.

Osaka previously lifted the lid on her role as a parent
The 4-time champion is trying to successfully pursue her endeavors daily to make her child proud. However, Osaka has expressed her timidness toward the huge role one plays in motherhood.
While many of her friends and peers have taken classes and sessions for pregnancy, Osaka is just “going with the flow,” for the new adventure. Speaking about it in an interview with Vogue, the former Australian Open champion revealed that she is continuously preparing for parental duties.
