Tennis stalwart and commentator Chris Evert is in awe of Mirra Andreeva‘s recent performance at the Australian Open 2024. Andreeva defeated the world’s number-six Ons Jabeur in straight sets in the second round of the tournament. As the sixteen-year-old moved to the next stage, Chris Evert praised her by asking the world to track this new tennis sensation.

Andreeva performed well at last season’s Australian Open too. However, fans did not expect anything like this. Now that Andreeva has started to grab bigger wins, Evert thinks that this tennis prodigy has great potential in the sport.

Recently, Chris Evert tweeted on her official X (formerly Twitter) about Mirra Andreeva’s great skill. She wrote- “Mirra Andreeva is GOOD… Only 16, keep an eye on her!” Evert here referred to Andreeva’s recent victory at the Australian Open tournament. Given that Ons Jabeur is the world’s number six, Andreeva’s victory against her truly surprised her fans.

Andreeva also bagged her victory against Bernarda Pera in the tournament’s first round straight sets. Following this, Andreeva continued her journey, aiming for perfect records at this tournament. Now following her victory against Jabeur, she has shown her rapid growth in tennis at such a young age

Inspired by Maria Sharapova’s brilliance, Mirra Andreeva stole the limelight with her debut 2023 Madrid Open. Now with amazing victories, Andreeva is determined to take the Grand Slam trophy back home.

How did Andreeva mesmerize her fans by winning against Ons Jabeur?

Andreeva made an astonishing victory by scoring 6-0, 6-2 against Jabeur. Within fifty-four minutes, she earned her victory to enter the tournament’s third round. Now she will face off against France’s Diane Perry. After her victory in the second round, Andreeva talked highly of her opponent.

She said, “I was really nervous before the match because I, I am really inspired by the way [Jabeur] plays, Before I started to play on the WTA Tour I always watched her matches, and now I got the chance to play against her. Honestly, in the first set, I played amazing tennis; I didn’t expect that from myself.” 

Andreeva’s victory becomes more epic as this is her first winning take on any WTA player within the top ten list. Given that Jabeur is also an idol of this tennis prodigy, it was an unbelievable feat for Andreeva.
