Former world no.1 Simona Halep is currently struggling on the WTA tour without a coach. After defeat at both the Qatar Open and the Dubai Open, she admitted that she would need someone in her box to guide her through on-court adversities. Recently, the Romanian has been training at the Mouratoglou academy in France.

Earlier in the summer, after losing in the fourth round at the Australian, she parted ways with two of her coaches, Daniel Dobre and Adrian Marcu. Then, she went to play the Dubai and Qatar Open without a coach. Now, she’s all set to play in the Indian Wells and Miami, possibly with the help of a 29-year-old coach.

Meanwhile, Halep felt really great after training at the Mouratoglou academy. Speaking about the current coaching situation, Simona said, “Of course you can play (no without a coach), but to make maximum performance, from my point of view, you need someone by your side, who can trust you and help you in difficult times, get over them much more I think the coach is important in a team. It’s a temporary thing. He will be a coach from Mouratoglou Academy in Indian Wells and Miami with me and then we will see.” (Quotes are translated using Google Translate)

After a week’s training at the French academy, Simona intends to get back to winning ways with the possible help of Morgan Bourbon. Currently ranked 27th on the WTA singles tour, Halep is gaming the Sunshine Double to regain her confidence. If all goes well with her current coach, we could see a long-term partnership between the two.
