The 2021 season has been quite challenging for Simona Halep. The 30-year-old has been irritated by nagging injuries and hasn’t been able to display her best tennis on the tour. She reached the final of the Transylvania Open in her home country, but was beaten there in straight sets by Anett Kontaveit. After the difficult loss, the Romanian entered the Linz Open in Austria.

Slowly and steadily, Halep entered the semi-finals of the competition. However, just ahead of the match, the two-time Grand Slam champion announced some unfortunate news regarding her participation. Halep, who was looking in good form throughout the tournament, pulled out from the semi-finals.

Simona Halep pulls out from Linz Open

At the Transylvania Open, Simona Halep cruised into the final, beating some fine players on the way. However, the number one seed fell short against Anett Kontaveit in the last match of the tournament. Halep then stepped in at the Linz Open. In the opening match of the tournament, Halep eased past Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus in straight sets.

Subsequently, she defeated Jasmine Paolini in a thrilling quarter-final. In the last set of the match, Halep had totally dominated winning it by a big margin of 6-0. In the semi-finals, she was to face her fellow countrywoman, Jaqueline Cristian. However, just ahead of the contest, Simona Halep announced some unfortunate news. She has pulled out from the Linz Open concerning her knee injury. 

She confirmed the unfortunate news on Twitter and said, “Unfortunately, I am not able to play in my semifinal after injuring my knee in my match yesterday. I would do anything to be able to play, but it is swollen and painful and playing will only make it worse. I want to say a huge thank you to the tournament and fans here.”

Halep’s struggle with injuries continues

Even Earlier, Simona Halep had withdrawn from this year’s French Open and Wimbledon championships because of her calf injury. This time, it’s her knee that has stopped the two-time Grand Slam champion from participating in the tournament.
