16-year-old Mirra Andreeva has enjoyed a sensational 2023 so far. The Russian started the year as World No. 293 in the WTA Tour rankings. However, a series of stunning performances from the youngster on the tour has seen her climb up to World No. 143. Andreeva even made it to the final draw for the 2023 French Open after winning all of her qualifying matches. What’s more? She won in her first-ever Grand Slam appearance after defeating American Alison Riske-Amritraj at the Stade Roland Garros. In her short time so far in Paris, Andreeva has managed to rub shoulders with some of the world’s best during her practice sessions. One of the people she’s had the good fortune of meeting is none other than the American tennis sensation Coco Gauff.

In a recent interview, Andreeva was quizzed regarding her meeting with 2022 French Open finalist Gauff. In her response, Andreeva heaped praise on Gauff, who is gunning for Grand Slam glory after narrowly missing out on 2022.

Despite being a youngster herself, American Coco Gauff has earned herself many fans. She draws a lot of support not only because of her talent in the tennis court, but due to her work off of it as well. Judging by Andreeva’s words, it’s fair to say that the young Russian is in awe of her as well.

During her interview with The Tennis Channel, Andreeva said, “I practiced with Coco here. She’s so good”. Andreeva also remarked on Gauff’s rapid and aggressive playing style. At the same time, the Russian teenager seemed amazed at how Gauff was an incredibly nice person. “She plays so aggressive, she plays so fast, and she’s so nice.”

 

Andreeva also looked back on her first meeting with Gauff at the Stade Roland Garros. “She just came to me, she said, ‘Hi, I’m Coco. I don’t think we’ve ever met but congratulations, nice to meet you.'” Andreeva concluded, “So, yes, I can say that she’s the most beautiful face for now.

19-year-old Gauff stunned the tennis world in 2022 as she surprisingly made it to the final of the French Open. However, her inexperience showed on the big stage as Iga Swiatek didn’t take much time to dismantle the American’s hopes of securing her first-ever Grand Slam title.

This time, however, Gauff would want to go one better and clinch the French Open title. Recently, Gauff reflected on her need to be more vocal to take her game to the next level. Her fans will certainly be hoping that her transition to the next level happens this year at the Stade Roland Garros.
