Serena and Venus Williams are the two most successful players in the history of women’s tennis. The records that they have made and broken on the tour since their debut will last for decades. In fact, they were the only ones who could challenge each other for a long time. Being two of the best players in the women’s circuit, the Williams duo, in a way, were invincible when they collaborated in doubles.

However, for quite some time, they focused on singles, especially Serena. But now, as the 23-time Grand Slam champion is retiring, the sisters have joined hands again to recreate the magic on the hard courts of their home Grand Slam tournament.

Venus, while addressing the press post her opening round defeat at the US Open, spoke about playing doubles with the younger sister for one last time. She said, “Yeah, it was Serena’s idea. She’s the boss, so do whatever she tells me to do (smiling).”
“I don’t think we have played since 2016, but might be getting that wrong. We have had some great wins. It would be nice to add some more.” Earlier, when Serena joined hands with the Tunisian Ons Jabeur Jabeur at Eastbourne, Venus shared her desire to team-up with her sister for one last time. And now her wish has come true.

Speaking of their records together, the duo have claimed 14 Grand Slam titles with the latest coming in 2016 on the grass courts of Wimbledon. Further, they also shined in the Olympics. The former World no.1s brought America gold medals from the Sydney, Beijing and London.

Venus in the American swing
The seven-time Grand Slam champion is going through a rough patch, as she has lost all of her opening round matches since her comeback. Venus made her singles comeback in the Citi Open and is still looking for her first victory of this season.

At the American Grand Slam, the 42-year-old again faced a straight-set opening round defeat. Though she gave a tough fight in the second set, she was out-muscled by Belgian tennis professional Alison Van Uytvanck. Now fans are hoping for a good doubles run from her and Serena. The legendary sisters will start their campaign on Thursday against seasoned doubles stars, Linda Nosková and Lucie Hradecká.
