Kate Middleton's absence at Wimbledon—How much does it affect the players' morale?

Emma Raducanu is ready to kick-start her Wimbledon run! Returning to the courts in white after nearly a year away, she aspires for something particularly special this time. The Briton recently disclosed whom she would adore having support her in the stands when she plays.

Raducanu deferred her Wimbledon debut until 2021 in order to concentrate on her A-levels. She made it to the fourth round, but respiratory issues forced her to withdraw. She had an ankle injury early in a match at the Nottingham Open the following year, and it was difficult for her to heal in time for Wimbledon.

She didn’t participate last year and has been going to training regularly, participating in more games, and most importantly, winning them, to get the best this year. Ahead of the event, in an interview with Wimbledon press before her first round, she revealed her idol, and it was not a former tennis legend but a member of the royal family!

Raducanu stated, “From the Royal box, her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales to come watch me. She’s like my idol.” Fans of the royal family are excitedly awaiting word on whether Kate, the Princess of Wales, will attend Wimbledon this year.

The 42-year-old Royal Highness has been away from public engagements since undergoing significant abdominal surgery in January, followed by starting preventative chemotherapy after being diagnosed with cancer. As the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC) patron, Middleton assumed the custom of giving trophies to the Wimbledon champions.

The All England Club’s chair, Debbie Jevans, acknowledged the optimism but underlined that Kate’s well-being and recuperation came first. She stated, “We’re hopeful that the Princess of Wales will be able to present the trophies as the Club’s patron, but her health and recovery is the priority.”

While Raducanu will likely not be able to see the Princess of Wales this year, Kate is not her only idol. Last year, she revealed her tennis idol, as she named a Chinese tennis player as an inspiration out to the world.

In an interview with Tatler, Emma Raducanu wished she had faced two-time Grand Slam champion Li Na at least once in her career. Raducanu remarked of her idol, “I think I saw her so much growing up, and she’s been such an idol of mine that I would just love to be on the other side of it. She’s a really complete player, and I would have loved to have a good battle against her.”

Raducanu was among the numerous people who were inspired by Li Na’s triumphs in the 2011 French Open and the 2014 Australian Open, which solidified her legacy in the sport of tennis. Nevertheless, what are your thoughts on the British tennis player’s idols on and off the court? Do let us know in the comment section below.
