Serena Williams is, without a doubt, one of the best players to grace the court. Williams has won 37 grand slam titles, including singles and doubles. She has also won four Olympic gold medals and countless other titles for a total tally of 73 titles. An impressive record by a special player. But even players like Serena can face periods of self-doubt. The coach of Simona Halep recently went on an interview with David Laroche. He told Laroche a tale of how Serena’s mind diverged. Mouratoglou told Laroche that Serena was inconsolable after the defeat, even though she had won the previous three grand slams. In 2016, Serena reached the French Open final, but her coach felt that she had forgotten the kind of player she was and tried to motivate her before the final. He attempted to remind her of her achievements.
“So, she loses the US Open semi-final against Vinci, and it has a huge impact on her even though it is one defeat after 4 consecutive grand slams won in a row, and she was in the semi-final of the fifth. Then, she is in the Roland Garros final, playing extremely badly, and the previous loss is still having an impact.” Mouratoglou explained to Laroche.

He continued, “However, the next day, she calls me, and we speak. I hang up and say to the academy director who I was with: “Serena is back. This is it. She’s going to win the Wimbledon. That’s for sure.” and she wins the Wimbledon, no surprises. She had reconnected with herself. “
