Is Emma Raducanu on the right track to success? French coach Patrick Mouratoglou gave the answer. The British teenager rose to sudden fame by claiming the US Open in 2021. The coach spoke about her during the launch of his NFT project “THE COACH”. He talked about how she has handled the pressure after her sudden rise to the top.

Emma Raducanu had started off in 2022 on a rough road. She tested COVID positive initially and then had blisters leading to an impediment to her progress in the Australian Open. Her leg injury in Mexico did not pay her well in the BNP Paribas Open as well. She lost to Petra Martic in a three-set spell at the Indian Wells.

The British player is now gearing herself up for the Miami Open. Next month the authorities have also named her for her single’s debut at Billie Jean King Cup against the Czech Republic.

Patrick Mouratoglou recently said, “If she’s able the maintain the mindset, she has at the moment with the work she’s putting in, I think she has the game, the physical ability, and the mental strength to do it (win more grand slam titles) in the future.”

Coach’s POV on Raducanu

Patrick Mouratoglou, coach of 23-time grand slam winner Serena Williams, talked about the young player. As per him, “Everything happened so fast and overnight for Emma and I don’t feel as though she has the basis to be under so much pressure.” The coach complimented her US Open achievement.

However, the coach also said, “It happened so fast, like if you ask her ‘how did you do it?’ I’m sure she can’t answer that.” He further clarified that the player is not yet clear about her strengths and weaknesses.

Pressure on Emma Raducanu

The French coach said because of her sudden rise to fame; she has come under a lot of pressure, which she did not have before playing the US Open. The coach said, “I feel like she’s going through a really tough time, but the way she handles it is great. She doesn’t show any weaknesses. She’s probably thinking ‘step-by-step I’m going to build my tennis to be consistently playing at that level’ which she’s not able to do right now.”

He believes Emma needs consistency in her gameplay and, if she can sustain that, she can do well. Moreover, he praised her German coach, Torben Beltz. He stated, “He’s a guy who is very, very focused on his job. Non-judgemental, which I think is very important, especially for Emma at the moment. She has a good team and you can see that she’s putting in the work.”

Torben Beltz has been the former long-time coach of Angelique Kerber, a former multi-time grand slam winner. But we have yet to see the prophecy of the coach getting manifested. The suspense remains as Emma gears up for one more step towards the top.
