Coco Gauff knows how to handle victory and defeat. As someone who became a part of the sport at quite a young age and came under the limelight for her victory at 19, the American tennis sensation has been handling pressure and playing her own game even in the worst of forms. Recently, Sophie Amiach, a former tennis player, opened up about Gauff being dedicated to delivering her best despite her struggles.

Although she won the US Open title last year, claiming her first Grand Slam, it was not as easy as the victory looked. Let’s take a look at what the 60-year-old former player has to say about the dedication that the world-ranked 3rd-ranked tennis player brings to the table.

Last year, there were a lot of expectations from the 2023 US Open champion, as she created a new team of coaches that included Andre Agassi’s ex-coach, Brad Gilbert, someone who is known to understand the psychological aspect of tennis, indirectly putting a lot of pressure on her performance, but Gauff kept her focus.

According to Vogue, Sophie Amiach highlighted how her big victory was even sweeter because she was on the defensive, even after carrying a not-so-brilliant form. Amiach stated, “She wasn’t playing well at all, but it didn’t matter.” Even before the US Open, Gauff achieved the WTA victory even when she wasn’t at the top of her game, making the Grand Slam victory somewhat surprising. The 60-year-old former tennis player highlighted, “She was just gonna die to bring one more ball back.”

With a big smile on her face and a heart filled with tennis ambition, Coco Gauff never leaves an opportunity to give her best, regardless of her tennis form. Not only that, the 19-year-old tennis player also shares advice while highlighting the intense scrutiny her career receives and the pressure on her on-court performances.

How does Gauff deal with pressure around her?

In an Eastbourne press conference last year, Gauff discussed her strategy and emphasized the value of having a solid support network and moving cautiously. She added, “For me, the best part is just to mute the noise and focus on myself and not focus on what other people are saying.”

Further, Gauff also stressed how important it is to stay focused on her own journey rather than being drawn into other people’s viewpoints. Even after doing great at the US Open this year, in the first Grand Slam event, she was able to make it to the semi-finals, which was quite an accomplishment in its own way.
