After Serena Williams‘ retirement, the pressure of expectations is on her shoulders and she understands it very well. However, the American knows that her next-round opponent, Emma Raducanu, is dealing with even more pressure. Here’s what happened.

Coco Gauff made a brilliant start to her Australian Open campaign. She defeated Czech tennis star Kateřina Siniaková in straight sets in her first-round match. Further, the 18-year-old is going to face former US Open champion Emma Raducanu.

Raducanu and Gauff have a similar story. Both the girls made it big at a very young age. However, in the case of Raducanu, she won a Grand Slam and has disappointed lately. Speaking about the challenges the Briton must have gone through, Gauff said,  “I feel like being from the UK, being like the first British person to do something in a long time, probably is a lot more pressure than what I’m used to being an American. Serena is retired now, but she was always the American that people looked to.”

The American further added, “I can’t really understand as much as I can, but I definitely can relate to bursting onto the scene and dealing with some pressure but I don’t think to that level.”

Gauff is not concerned about the prize money

Apart from the initial success, there’s a completely different way Gauff approached her tennis career as compared to Emma Raducanu. While the Briton got loads of deals and endorsements, Gauff still maintains a comparatively low profile. The 18-year-old has said on many occasions that she doesn’t think of money as of now.
