It is almost time for the Madrid Open, one of the biggest clay-court events in the world. The Women’s tournament will start early than the men’s event. Before that, all the top players attended the mandatory press conference to express their views. Meanwhile, world no.1 Iga Swiatek announced yesterday that she will miss the Madrid Open due to a right shoulder injury. Many players praised Iga for her tremendous achievement on the WTA tour in 2022. ‘Stranger Things’ has been one of the most popular series on Netflix and many people around the world watched it. It seems like Maria Sakkari has also watched the series, as she compared Iga Swiatek with the lead character of that series, ‘Eleven’.

“You can tell she’s a very, very nice girl, she’s a very good person; you can tell from her eyes, and from her aura and everything. I’m pretty sure she likes ‘Stranger Things’ right? I could tell she has that kind of, not superpower, but something different. Like the character ‘Eleven’. Maybe it’s the short hair as well. I don’t know, she has something,” Sakkari said

“Obviously she’s been having great results since Doha and she deserves it. I’ve been telling you guys that she has been doing the right things. You don’t win four tournaments in a row if you don’t deserve it and it’s exciting,” the Greek player further said praising the 20year-old Polish player.

Meanwhile, the world no.5, Sakkari will start her Madrid Open campaign tomorrow against the American, Madison Keys. Currently, she is having a decent season so far. Earlier, she reached the Indian Wells final but lost to Iga in the final.

However, we could see her playing in Rome, as the injury may not be that serious. Earlier, she won her first clay-court title of the season at Stuttgart Open after beating Aryna Sabalenka in the final. If she stays fit, she will be the favorite to win the French Open title again for the second time.
