The ongoing Charleston Open has treated the audience with a number of great rivalries between some of the biggest names on the WTA Tour. However, the round of 16 of the tournament between Belinda Bencic and Shelby Rogers has sparked a series of controversies due to a bizarre moment. A little bump between them has now become a contentious topic for the tennis community. Taking note, the Swiss tennis star has recently revealed what actually happened during that encounter on the court.
A little bump between the WTA players became a topic of serious discussion
The idea of trash-talking on the court has already intrigued a number of WTA players during the ongoing Charleston Open. There is a lot of speculation in the tennis community that bantering opponents will bring more viewership into the “polite” game. Joining the list of players encouraging trash talk, the Swiss tennis star, Belinda Bencic, recently made her stance clear on the notion.

It all started when she got bumped by her opponent, Shelby Rogers, during her victory in Charleston. The entire tennis community is already speculating that something might have irked the Swiss tennis player during that bizarre moment. A lot of video clips of that controversial incident between Bencic and Rogers have already gone viral on Twitter. Notably, the 26-year-old player was also asked about the same in her post-match interview.
Bencic said, “Yeah, I don’t know. I think she just walked into right into me, so maybe we’re already starting this trash talk.”
While detailing that incident, she said that it has become a subject of bantering on the court. Bencic added, “She didn’t bump me. Yeah, I don’t know. I thought she’s gonna bump me. So, I was a bit surprised, but all good.”

A lot of her peers like Jessica Pegula, Paula Badosa, Coco Gauff, and others have already supported the notion of trash-talking in the sport. Taking note, Bencic was asked about her opinion on the bantering rivals on the court.

She said, “Yeah, I think I think would be cool. Like why not? Like I know you love this kind of stories. That’s great. It’s great for the people. It would be fun. I think it will be nice to try it out. It will make it more interesting. I think we’re all just too nice right now.”
Later, the former world No. 4 was asked how she would’ve reacted if her opponent had actually bumped her. Bencic answered by saying, “I’m not sure. I’lI be like, “Oh!” Great trash talk already.”
