It is the role of a coach to prepare his ward for all kinds of challenges. While most of the coaches do well with the sport part, mental development is largely ignored. Serena’s former coach Mouratoglou gave his opinion on the same. Here’s what he said.
“I was on tour and a coach came to me and told me do you know a player that is looking for a coach? Because I am working with this player. I do great practice. But she can’t win a match because she has no mental. That’s the most awkward sentence I have ever heard. It’s part of the role of the coach to be also doing the mental part,” Mouratoglou said. He further added, “I believe that the mental part of the game is so much directly linked with the success that we can not say it is not my business. We also have to make sure that when the player goes to the match, he or she is perfectly mentally prepared to win.”
It is lovely to see coaches taking mental development seriously.
