Later, the former world number one decided to give it back to her WTA colleague. Serena wrote an open letter to her mother. Although it was a letter for Oracene, it seemed more like a dig at Maria Sharapova.

Serena Williams’ indirect dig at Maria Sharapova

After becoming a mother, Serena wrote an open letter to her mother, thanking her for everything. She also explained how, after becoming a mother, she is more worried about her daughter, as they have identical bodies. Serena wrote about the challenges she had to face because of her muscular build. It came after Sharapova mentioned Serena targeting her for “thick arms and thick legs”.

Here’s what Serena wrote. “You are one of the strongest women I know. I was looking at my daughter (OMG, yes, I have a daughter and she has my arms and legs! My exact same strong, muscular, powerful, sensational arms and body. I don’t know how I would react if she has to go through what I’ve gone through since I was a 15-year-old and even to this day….”

Further, the American also took a dig at Sharapova’s drug ban. “I’ve been called man because I appeared outwardly strong. It has been said that that I use drugs (No, I have always had far too much integrity to behave dishonestly in order to gain an advantage),”
