It’s not like drama is a feature of the big league tennis matches alone. Recently at the Portugal ITF 031, a third-round match became the center of everyone’s attention.
Dalma Galfi and Petra Marcinko, two players common in the ITF circuit, were competing for a place in the Quarterfinals. Dalma Rebeka Galfi, from Hungary has singles titles to her name along with ten doubles titles on the ITF Women’s Circuit. Her 16-year-old opponent Petra Marcinko, hailing from Croatia has won nine titles on the ITF Junior circuit. Marcinko also has 7 doubles titles.

During the 4th round match, one of Dalma Galfi’s serve was supposedly out, but the umpire refused to check the mark, citing the fact that she had not stopped in time.
Petra Marcinko’s coach says the umpiring was worse than at juniors
Petra Marcinek’s father and coach, who became quite agitated about the whole issue severely criticized this act by the umpire. “This is worst umpiring than juniors. This is her first 80k tournament and she gets robbed. What will I tell her? I want an apology,” he said.
Big drama in Marcinko-Galfi, as the umpire refuses to check a mark from Dalma’s serve at 4-4 40-40 in the 3rd. Coach was very pissed as well.

Dalma Galfi who was a former ITF Junior world no. 1 asked Marcinek’s coach to shut up and she indicated that this kind of behavior was not expected at a pro-level match. But Marcinek’s coach also said that his ward was being cheated on. “Are you proud of yourself? She is 16yo and you are cheating her. Disgraceful,” he said!
Both the players have been quite frequent on the tennis circuit and Marcinek is only just making her mark in the world of tennis. Galfi on the other hand reached her best singles ranking of world No. 104, on the WTA list very recently, and is on her way to break into the top-100.
Galfi however, said that she could understand this kind of behavior from Marcinek’s coach and could relate to his feelings. “Her dad wanted her to win, it’s normal. She will learn from these experiences,” she said.
