Serena Williams has transcended the limits of tennis to become a global icon for many things. Being given the highest honor at the 2023 CFDA awards, she became the first athlete in the history of the Council of Fashion Designers of America to be given the prestigious Fashion Icon Award. As she arrived on the red carpet to receive the honor, she talked about her daughter, Olympia, and how she is a budding fashionista.

Williams has talked about Olympia’s keen eye for fashionable looks earlier as well. In an interview before her retirement, she discussed how her daughter loved dressing her and her husband up. Now, the sense of it has only developed. So what exactly did Serena, who always puts her best foot forward, say about her fashionista daughter?

Williams arrived on the red carpet of the CFDA clad in black. She wore an elegant sleeveless dress with detachable puffy sleeves and dragged a train the same color as her dress. As the 23-time Grand Slam champion walked up to give several interviews, she was asked about her daughter’s fashion sense in one.

First, the interviewer asked her how it felt to be a fashion icon, and she replied, “It feels a little unbelievable. But I’m super excited like I honestly don’t really have the words.”

The former World No. 1 was then told of how her love for fashion has been extensively documented and asked if it had rubbed off on the 6-year-old Ohanian. Williams replied in the affirmative. “She has a wig. Since she was a kid, she knew what she wanted to wear. I mean, she’s still a kid now, but when she was like two, she would say, ‘I want this, I want that’. So she always knew what she wanted” said Williams.

Williams has praised her daughter’s keen sense of fashion many times and did so once in 2020. Turns out, the apple can’t help but fall very far off from the tree.

Williams reflected on Olympia dressing her and her husband

In an interview with People in 2020, the former world number one stated that her daughter had an unusually good sense of fashionable clothing given her age. She was only 2 1/2 years old at the time of the interview. Regardless, she could provide dress suggestions to her mother. She extended the conversation to Alexis, stating that Olympia dresses both of them every day.

From that point in time, Olympia’s fashion sense has only developed. Now 6, the Junior Ohanian has managed to keep her hobby going as her mother’s love for fashion has only nurtured hers. It is likely to grow further, and we will see Ohanian and Williams in even better outfits in the future.
