Alexis Ohanian, Reddit co-founder and husband of tennis legend, Serena Williams, has come under the brunt of tennis fans’ scrutiny. It happened after he took a cryptic dig at the Romanian player Simona Halep, who was recently suspended amidst doping allegations. Ohanian shared a 2019 post about himself when his wife had a match against Maria Sharapova.

The issue arose when Ohanian tweeted a post of himself wearing a DARE t-shirt from 2019. He was at a Serena Williams vs Maria Sharapova match in the first round of the US Open. DARE stands for ‘Drug Abuse Resistance Education’. The uproar came after the Reddit co-founder took to his Twitter stating, “What are you all wearing for Halloween this year???”

It offended a lot of fans as the news of Halep’s ban was spreading like wildfire by then. The fans bashed Williams’ husband for pulling off such a comment. One fan tweeted, “Damn.. serena’s wife got jokes.” To this, Ohanian did not stay silent and commented, “Why is it always the same obvious Romanian bots? Y’all gotta do better. smh.”
Was it a joke or an intentional dig? The answer lies with Ohanian himself. However, fans are not reacting well to his post, as they found it highly insensitive.
