Serena's scale frustration—relatable struggle or unnecessary pressure? What's your take on her candid post?

Serena Williams remains a beacon of inspiration, even two years after her retirement from tennis. While her impressive achievements in the sport are well-known, it’s her candidness about personal struggles that resonates with many. From navigating motherhood to maintaining her fitness, she shares her journey with authenticity. Her Instagram posts often radiate positivity, showcasing her lifestyle and beauty brand, while she actively engages in a rigorous fitness regimen.

In August 2023, Serena welcomed her second daughter, Adira River Ohanian. Following this, she began documenting her postpartum weight loss journey on social media. This year, she delighted fans by fitting into clothes she had struggled with before pregnancy. In July, she celebrated slipping into a Valentino denim midi skirt after multiple attempts. By October, she showcased a floral wraparound dress that fit comfortably, demonstrating her progress and joy.

However, not everything has been smooth sailing. Earlier today, Serena expressed frustration over the weighing scale’s readings. In a post on X, she wrote, “I can’t take anymore negativity and lies. And that’s why I won’t get on scales anymore… Can you relate?”

Recently health concerns have also played a role in Serena’s life. Earlier in May, she discovered a benign branchial cyst in her neck that required removal. After surgery, she resumed sharing her fitness journey and adopted a vegan diet alongside her sister Venus Williams to address health issues. Veganism is believed to aid in weight loss due to its focus on plant-based foods and lower calorie density. But is that what Serena is suggesting with her post on X? Possibly no.

Serena’s husband Alexis Ohanian, on the other hand, has admitted to not taking his workouts seriously. He humorously confessed during the Athlos NYC event last month that he hasn’t run since “high school football” where it was actually a punishment. Ohanian, however, wants his daughters to be as fit as their mother.

Alexis Ohanian opened up about his fitness regimen and hopes differently for his daughters

At the Athlos NYC event in October, Alexis Ohanian showcased not just his passion for sports but also his dedication as a father. He reminisced about the fun he had with his daughter, Olympia, at this women-only track and field event, which he helped create. The 7-year-old was a constant presence, joining Ohanian during interviews and cheering from the stands. As he interacted with American Track and Field athlete Justin Gatlin, Ohanian humorously reflected on his own fitness levels and shared his hopes for his daughters.

When asked about his personal best in the 100m sprint, Ohanian responded with playful disbelief. “Are you kidding me? Did you see me walking in here? Big Fella doesn’t sprint. The only time I ran was high school football as a punishment,” he joked. He then expressed a desire to spare his daughters the embarrassment of watching him struggle on the track. “A 41-year-old out-of-shape dad sprinting 100m, no one wants that. I gotta think of the legacy I leave behind for my little girls,” he added, highlighting his commitment to being a positive role model.

Ohanian’s initiative to promote women’s sports began in April when he announced plans for Athlos and committed funding through his venture capital firm, Seven Seven Six. His self-deprecating humor reflects a common theme. He often critiques himself while celebrating his daughters’ potential. In September, a photo of their daughter running was shared on Instagram. When a fan pointed out that Olympia’s athleticism comes from her ‘mama,’ Ohanian expressed gratitude as he responded saying, ‘thankfully.’

While Serena Williams was as athletic as anyone on the Tour at her peak, she has also been more candid than ever with her weight loss journey post pregnancy. What do you think about her latest post on X though? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
