Home/Olympics

The Philadelphia Eagles etched their name in history by conquering the 59th Super Bowl, defeating the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in a thrilling showdown. But, as always, the biggest hum of the night came during the halftime show. In an astounding moment, tennis legend Serena Williams stole the spotlight, surprising fans by joining Kendrick Lamar on stage for an electrifying dance performance. However, a revelation came after the match when Serena’s daughter, Olympia, chimed in with an unforeseen question, one that sparked a direct comparison between two of the world’s greatest sporting events. What exactly did she ask?

It has been nearly two and a half years since the queen of Flushing Meadows bid farewell to professional tennis. However, her star power shone once again at the recently concluded Super Bowl, where she grabbed attention with an enigmatic crip walk. And she later shared a reel on Instagram, simply captioning it, “It’s the Super Bowl!!!!!!!! Are you ready?” Adding to the intrigue, she also shared a carousel of photos, captioning, “Fun casual night and I got to visit the field 🏈”.

As a minority owner of the “Miami Dolphins” alongside her sister Venus, the former No. 1 was in attendance at the highly anticipated showdown, joined by her husband, Alexis Ohanian, and their daughter, Olympia. However, the real moment of the night came as the family headed home after the showdown between two giants of American football. From the backseat, 8-year-old Olympia suddenly asked a question so intriguing that indeed demanded closer attention.

Following the showdown in New Orleans, the 23-time Grand Slam winner Williams shared a flurry of Instagram stories, giving fans a glimpse into her eventful night. From dining at a restaurant to flaunting her “WYN Beauty” makeup merchandise, documenting her match-day glam routine, heading to the stadium, and even dancing on the rooftop of the LA stadium, she kept the excitement going long after the final whistle.

However, the most intriguing moment came on the drive home, when an unexpected conversation unfolded between the three. Olympia, full of curiosity, turned to her father, Alexis, and asked, “Is it (Super Bowl) bigger than the Olympics?”, a question that sparked an interesting response from him: “You know what, you’re right…” Serena then voiced while wrapping up the video with “That’s a wrap, that’s family time…1,2,3 meh”.

Comparing both the Olympics and the Super Bowl seems unfair, as they represent different sporting realms. For instance, the Olympics, a global multi-sport event held every four years, features almost 32 sports and players from 206 nations. The last year’s Paris Olympics alone garnered an astonishing 2 billion viewership, according to the FuboTV data. In contrast, the Super Bowl, an annual American football event, drew around 115 million viewers last year. However, with the continued globalization of sports, the NFL is expected to attract more international attention.

Serena Williams stole the attention with Half Time Crip Walk

The Eagles beat the Chiefs at the Super Bowl LIX, crushing their hopes of securing a third consecutive Super Bowl title. Despite putting up a fight, the Chiefs couldn’t replicate their past two years’ dominance at the grandest stage as the Eagles soared to a commanding 40-22 victory. However, as always, the halftime show stole the spotlight of the biggest NFL night of the year.

This year, it came with a surprise appearance: Serena Williams. And she didn’t disappoint, thrilling fans with her signature “Crip Walk” during a Drake diss track ‘Not Like Us’ by the Grammy award winner Kendrick Lamar. With that, Serena reminded tennis lovers of her legendary on-court swagger from 13 years ago.

The story goes back to the 2012 London Olympics, where Williams dominated Maria Sharapova to claim the Olympic gold medal. However, it wasn’t just her victory that made headlines, it was also her post-match celebration that caught the spotlight. Right after her victory, Serena won over the tennis world by breaking into a Crip Walk on the court, a moment that instantly went viral. Later, she even explained the origins of the dance, adding to its cultural significance among her audience. “It’s just a dance we do in California, I’d say, West Coast. Actually, there is a name, but, I don’t know, it’s inappropriate,” Serena revealed
