However, even though Williams knows her situation best and must have made a calculated decision, fans are not ready to say goodbye. Therefore, the anxiety has made them flood the counters of the US Open.

The Serena Williams effect

The last Grand Slam of the season is garnering much more influx since the announcement. Williams, the ace who ruled the courts for over 25 years, has made the demand for tickets to the hard court majors spike many folds with her declaration. Every fan wants to see the legend in action one last time. The ticket retailer StubHub’s spokesperson Adam Budelli disclosed. “We typically see demand spike on StubHub when a player announces their retirement.”

Thereafter, he explained, “this is especially the case when it’s Serena Williams, arguably one of the greatest players to set foot on the tennis court. Over the last 24 hours, we’ve seen eight times more sales on StubHub for the US Open than the daily average.”

Further, Williams is chasing her 24th title since 2017. In 2017 she claimed her last majors trophy by outclassing elder sister Venus Williams in the hard courts of Australian Open. If the former World no.1 manages to have her hands on this title, she will tie her score with the veteran Margaret Court’s all-time record.

Williams in the Canadian Masters

In order to claim the American Grand Slam, Williams needs to oil her hard court skills. She made a comeback in the greens of London and failed to execute a decent run at the majors. However, in her defense, she didn’t play enough warm up tournaments.

Therefore, with two master’s events ahead, one would expect her to reach close to her older form. Though the 40-year-old has failed yet again. Williams, after thrashing her first opponent in straight sets, suffered a similar fate in the second round of Toronto Open. The Swiss tennis ace Belinda Bencic advanced to the round of 16 by thrashing her 6-2, 6-4. Now Cincinnati will be the next stop.
