However, what one did not expect was that former US President Donald Trump would have something to say about their rivalry. Interestingly, the comment was about their looks instead of their gameplay.
Donald Trump compared Serena Williams with Maria Sharapova
In a 2018 post-match interview during the French Open, Serena Williams faced a bizarre question. The reporter mentioned that after her 2004 match against Sharapova; he had interviewed Donald Trump.
According to the reporter, Trump had commented on Sharapova’s looks, which were apparently very alluring. Furthermore, he conveyed that Trump stated Sharapova’s supermodel looks intimidated Serena Williams.
The reporter thus asked if anyone had ever intimidated her on the court. To this, confident Williams gave a direct reply, cutting the conversation short.

She said, “I honestly don’t have any thoughts about that. I can’t say I have been intimidated by anyone. That’s it.” The player has kept her concentration on the game and has achieved immense success.

How did the rivalry between the two players go?
The rivalry between the two was highly in favor of the American player. Williams led the H2H series by a ratio of 20:2. Sharapova retired in the year 2020 and two years following that, Serena Williams announced her retirement.
Further, the upcoming US Open will be her last major and after that, she will retire from her glorious career. The player has retired with 23 grand slam titles and will try to achieve her 24th one at the US Open 2022.
