Serena's Crip Walk at the Olympics—legendary moment or just another day for the GOAT?

Remember that moment? The match had just ended, Serena Williams had once again proven her prowess, and instead of simply waving to the crowd, she broke into a jubilant dance. Williams rocks! Not just metaphorically, but literally as well. The legendary tennis star has continued to dominate the tennis world even after hanging up her racquets. Fans around the globe have continuously celebrated her enduring impact on the sport and beyond. For many fans, one of the most cherished memories of watching Serena in action was her iconic dance at the Olympics.

As soon as a user asked on X, “What’s your favourite memory of tennis at the Olympics?” several fans came out to express their sentiments. Among the numerous responses, what caught major attention was the admission of a large number of fans who admitted Williams’ C-Walk was their favorite.

Williams amazed and exhilarated her fans after winning the 2012 Olympic Gold medal. But what made her fans more happy was the C-Walk she performed. This dance involves the movement of the feet, classically to the spelling of C-R-I-P. It was usually used by Crips at parties to display affiliation. While it was once in a blue moon happening on the tennis courts, fans are definitely not over it even after a decade.

Soon after winning her first Olympic gold in singles, Williams was seen breaking down to steps as the song played in the background. She was also cheered by her sister Venus who lauded her from the stands. Another user responded similarly. 

Sharing a GIF of the dance, the user wrote, “This 😂😂😂” The tennis legend had her fan amazed as she rejoiced to the beatbox music of the song Keep It Gangsta by Ice Cube. Serena had not lost a single set in the entire Olympic to clinch the gold medal. She baffled Maria Sharapova in the finals and lost just one game 6-0, 6-1. The victory is still one of the most iconic in the history of the Olympic finals. Another user joined in the fray to celebrate her grand victory.

Taking to X, the user wrote, “Serena CRUSHING Sharapova in the 2012 final.” The American legend dominated with her serve. She repeatedly blasted winners from the baseline, taking a big swing with almost every stroke on Centre Court. After the victory, she had recalled, “I remember I was serving and I was thinking: ‘Serena, this is your best chance to win a gold medal.” One more user responded similarly to express their joy.

The user wrote, “Serena Williams winning gold at London 2012 Olympics. Centre Court Wimbledon and playing at the highest level possible.” The year was a remarkable run for Williams. Just a month before winning the Olympic gold, she had clinched her fifth Wimbledon title and defeated Agnieszka Radwańska in the final.
