Remember those classic “DIY” (Do-It-Yourself) projects? I surely do, especially the time I had to make clay pots for my school project! Well, Alexis Ohanian, the co-founder of Reddit and proud husband of Serena Williams, also took a nostalgic dive into his DIY past recently where he shared glimpses of his hands-on projects with his dad, Chris Ohanian. But what did he create for his DIY project though? Any guesses?
At 41, Alexis has been an integral part of Serena Williams’ journey since their marriage in 2017. But beyond being a supportive husband over the years, he’s also a hands-on, doting father who frequently makes headlines for his heartwarming gestures toward his two kids. A standout example? In 2022, Ohanian took a sentimental DIY bracelet, made with love, and transformed it into a beautiful piece of jewelry for his daughter, Olympia, which she loved. A perfect blend of creativity and fatherly love! Isn’t it?
“I turned the arts & crafts bracelet that @olympiaohanian made me into some proper jewelry with a real chain to replace the string and some black onyx beads,” he even added in his Instagram post to showcase the beaded bracelet that spelled out “papa”. However, he recently also opened up about other DIY projects, but this time about, his own!

Just a couple of hours ago, the proud father of two sat down with his father Chris Ohanian at the “Business Dad” podcast, where she shared about one of his childhood DIY projects. He added, “Discussing my DIY days with Dad on #BusinessDad… We’d hit up liquor stores—not for the booze, but for the boxes. Perfect for crafting epic Halloween costumes and whatever else my glue-gun-wielding imagination cooked up. Who needs fancy toys when you’ve got cardboard?”

Not just that, from time to time, the father-son duo has captivated fans by sharing cherished stories from the past, offering a deeper glimpse into the life of the famous tech enthusiast. Take, for instance, a recent episode on “Business Grandpa” where the theme revolved around how Chris raised Alexis Ohanian and his stepsisters. A pivotal moment involved the father recounting an incident in which he rebuked a parent for excessive pressure regarding their children’s play, thereby demonstrating his conviction in allowing children to grow and learn independently; this resonated deeply with Alexis and his daughter Olympia.
“That was rough because I was clueless about the rules of the sport. I gave two years of my time and I was like, ‘Oh my God, I can’t do this.’ And then of course dealing with parents could be a real pain,” Chris added.
In addition to recounting personal childhood anecdotes on his podcasts, he recently voiced his support for Serena Williams, revealing a surprising narrative related to her Super Bowl performance of the Crip Walk.

Alexis backs Serena for the Super Bowl showdown
The recently concluded Super Bowl halftime show took an unexpected turn when former world no. 1 Serena Williams suddenly appeared on camera while Kendrick Lamar performed his explosive Drake diss track, “Not Like Us”. The moment set the internet ablaze, with the tennis world applauding the 23-time GS champion for sharing the spotlight even after stepping away from the sport in 2022.
But as it turns out, there was more to the story behind the appearance. In a recent social media post, Ohanian shed light on the deeper significance behind her iconic ‘Crip walk’ during Lamar’s five-time Grammy-winning track, one that’s rumored to aim at her alleged ex, Drake.
According to a ‘TikTok’ clip shared by Ohanian on his X handle, Serena’s cultural impact stretches far beyond professional tennis. He highlighted how she and her sister, Venus, faced systemic resistance as “Black women” on tour, often overlooked in favor of players like another tennis icon Maria Sharapova. Yet, the 23-time champ refused to let the narrative define her. One of her most powerful moments came at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, where she dominated Sharapova to claim the elusive gold medal in the Women’s final. In celebration, she “Crip walked” on Wimbledon’s All England Club, a move that sparked controversy, given the dance’s roots in ‘Compton’ gang culture, where both Serena and Lamar were raised in their childhood.

What many saw as defiance was, in reality, a message from her: the former No. 1 was just a girl from Compton who shattered every barrier in her way, inspiring generations to follow in the future. Her presence, even in retirement, remains commanding, serving as a constant reminder of her identity.
