Alexis Ohanian's daughter's name has a deep business tie—how important are personal connections in professional success?

Although Shakespeare says “What’s in a name,” many would say it carries a universe’s worth of meaning. For Serena Williams‘ husband, Alexis Ohanian, his capital firm’s name holds more than many would imagine it is a tribute to Ohanian’s never-ending love for his daughter Olympia. But how? In an adorable revelation, Williams’ husband shared his thoughts behind his venture that offers a perfect fatherhood goal for others.

Ohanian, a proud father of two, reveals why he named his new venture 776. Sharing the details through an Instagram clip, the Reddit co-founder brought many smiles as his revelations offered a heart-warming ode to his elder daughter, Olympia. Ohanian also shared some details about 776’s logo, clearing the curiosities of his followers.

I was originally naming the firm after Olympia,” Ohanian said while beginning with his statement. He chose Olympia because she was Ohanian’s inspiration “to resign and start seven seven six.” Ohanian finally rejected the idea of naming it Olympia Capital as Serena Williams, his wife, wisely pointed out the possibility of jealousy in their second child if they have any. It is wise to say that Ohanian made a good move by taking Williams’ suggestions, as they had Adira afterward.

Although the name was different, the motivation remained the same. He revisited his history classes in school and recalled that the first-ever ancient Olympic tournament happened in 776 B.C. at Olympia. After that, Ohanian shared an interesting story following an ancient Greek cook who participated in a footrace event after his shift and won the competition. He added that another cook was there, known as the greatest runner but he couldn’t win despite his record. He said it happened because the former cook not the fastest person, but the fasted one to be invited.

This is a reminder for us to keep seeking out greatness, find the next great person to build a generational tech company, and not settle. That’s our northstar. That’s why it’s called 776,Ohanian concluded. While the statement had a strong motivation, adding it to Ohanian’s vision with naming, the entire project achieved a different benchmark showcasing a father’s love for his daughter, a love inspiring a father to do great things!
