After a legendary run with Mercedes, including six world titles, Lewis Hamilton’s decision to join Ferrari in 2025 ignited a frenzy. Alexis Ohanian, proudly displaying his new Ferrari merchandise, captured the moment with a resounding ‘LFG Lewis Hamilton!’ This enthusiasm followed a period of scrutiny, including Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff’s ‘shelf life’ remark. However, Hamilton’s recent powerful response, just before his Ferrari debut, has reaffirmed his ‘champion mentality’ in the eyes of fans like Alexis Ohanian.
On Valentine’s Day, Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time Formula One world champion, arrived at a spacious London studio, his gaze fixed on a striking black stallion. “Sh-t,” he admitted, a hint of nervousness in his voice. Despite his initial apprehension, fueled by allergies, Hamilton quickly connected with Aroma, the magnificent horse. This intimate interaction was part of a planned photoshoot, a symbolic gesture to celebrate Hamilton’s highly anticipated move from Mercedes to Ferrari. The vision: a powerful image of Hamilton alongside a rearing black horse, mirroring Ferrari’s iconic logo.
“You can’t stand still for too long,” Hamilton, who had a one-year contract remaining with Mercedes and used his exit clause to make a move to Ferrari in 2024, told TIME, in his first in-depth interview about his decision to leave Mercedes for Ferrari.

“I needed to throw myself into something uncomfortable again. Honestly, I thought all my firsts were done. Your first car, your first crash, your first date, first day of school. The excitement I got by the idea of, ‘This is my first time in the red suit, the first time in the Ferrari.’ Wow. Honestly, I’ve never been so excited.” Not everyone was excited, though!
In his November book, ‘Inside Mercedes F1: Life in the Fast Lane,’ Toto Wolff suggested Lewis Hamilton’s departure “helps us because it avoids the moment where we need to tell the sport’s most iconic driver that we want to stop … We’re in a sport where cognitive sharpness is extremely important, and I believe everyone has a shelf life.” These remarks sparked controversy, prompting Wolff to later clarify that Hamilton remains “very sharp.”
When Hamilton was asked to share his thoughts on Wolff’s comments, he said, “Don’t ever compare me to anybody else,” says Hamilton. “I’m the first and only Black driver that’s ever been in this sport. I’m built different. I’ve been through a lot. I’ve had my own journey. You can’t compare me to another 40-year-old, past or present, Formula One driver in history. Because they are nothing like me. I’m hungry, driven, don’t have a wife and kids. I’m focused on one thing, and that’s winning. That’s my No. 1 priority.”
Hours after the interview, Alexis Ohanian, Serena Williams’ husband, shared excerpts from the story on his Instagram, simply captioning it, “@lewishamilton 😮💨.”

However, not only Ohanian, even the 1996 FI World Champion Damon Hill, shared this similar post on his socials with the caption, “Unique.” No wonder why Lewis Hamilton is regarded as one of the greatest drivers in F1 history!
Serena Williams and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, are two of his biggest supporters in the sports world. Last year, when Hamilton ended his two-year-long winless streak by clinching the podium spot at the British Grand Prix, he also became the first F1 driver to win on any track nine times, extending his F1 record to 104 wins. During that time, Williams was spotted dropping a comment on one of his posts saying,
“Don’t let anyone tell you what you can’t do you better than everyone! Seeeeee?? I see! Love you bro The best ever.” Even Alexis Ohanian dedicated a social media post on Hamilton with the caption, “LFG @LewisHamilton and what a place to do it.” What does Lewis Hamilton say about his strong camaraderie with Serena Williams and her family?

Talking about mindset, well, Lewis Hamilton once recalled his childhood days when he used to watch the Williams sisters on TV with his father and how their extreme courage gave him hope to excel in his own field. “I remember watching her and Venus at their first games with my dad on TV. Seeing such talented women dominating a field where no one looked like them gave me hope. They made me believe that superheroes are real, and they can look me and my family.” He said he never dreamed in a million years that he’d meet these “heroes” and come to call them his “friends.”
