Serena Williams’ Husband Alexis Ohanian Shares Heartfelt Message After Surprising Coincidence With Billie Jean King – ‘She’s an Icon..’

It is such a thrill to meet people who you admire. Recently, Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian had the great opportunity to meet none other than Billie Jean King. Ohanian is an exceptional advocate for women’s sports and so is BJK. He was so happy that he could not stop himself from boasting about it on his official social media as well.

Alexis Ohanian posted an Instagram story of a selfie with BJK. The two of them seemed pretty excited to bump into one another at the airport. He also wrote a caption that read, “Fitting that I’d meet @billiejeanking at the airport as I’m heading home from @weareangelcity @nwsl owners meeting! She’s an icon and an investor in the club.”

His caption not only reveals the fact that Alexis Ohanian, like all of us, has huge respect for the tennis star, but also that she is a current investor in his all-women’s soccer league club. In fact, who else would be a better investor than her?

On September 20, 1973, Billie Jean King defeated former No. 1 ranked men’s tennis player Bobby Riggs in a ‘Battle of the Sexes’ match. King beat Riggs in straight sets, 6–4, 6–3, 6–3. This was a huge moment for women’s sports. This match was especially a big one because Riggs, who was 55 at that time, claimed that the women’s game was inferior to the men’s game.

BJK thought if she didn’t win that match, “it would set us back 50 years.” However, she didn’t just defeat Riggs. She also attracted viewership. More than 30,000 people attended the event at the Houston Astrodome and 90 million people worldwide watched it on television. This is counted as one of the most-watched televised sporting events.

As a result, it makes complete sense for Alexis Ohanian to have her as an investor in his club. After all, he sees massive potential in women’s sports.

Billie Jean King and her partner Ilana Kloss are investors at the club. They are the second couple who have invested in the club, along with Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian. In fact, King and Kloss’s daughter, Lailaa, is also one of the members of the ownership group.

Similarly, Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian’s older daughter Olympia Ohanian is also listed in the ownership combo, just like King’s family.
