Alexis Ohanian has never let go of any moment to celebrate his wife’s success on the tennis circuit. Though Serena Williams has retired from professional tennis, after breaking and setting numerous records, this one Grand Slam was special, and Ohanian wants tennis fans to remember every reason behind it! The moment when the Queen of the Court claimed the big 23rd Majors’ title, at the Australian Open 2017.

The co-host of the Murray Musings podcast, Scott Barclay, recently shared a tennis fact about Serena Williams which garnered the attention of Williams’ husband, Ohanian. Barclay tweeted, “What is a tennis fact that sounds fake but is actually real? Mine is that Serena Williams once won a major title while pregnant.” This prompted all tennis enthusiasts to remember the historical moment when Serena Williams and Olympia Ohanian won their first Grand Slam together. Sadly, it was also Williams’ last Grand Slam in the tennis circuit.

However, the Reddit cofounder didn’t want anyone to forget how ground-breaking that moment was. Williams was 2 months pregnant with their first child when she won her 23rd Grand Slam and 7th Australian Open title. Moreover, there was another historical fact which Ohanian reminded in response, he tweeted, “Not just that, broke the all-time record for GSs.” However, this latter fact also upended the moment with the controversy back in 2017. As Margaret Court had claimed 24 Grand Slam titles, but Williams was hailed the GOAT.

Margaret Court and Williams’ eras were decades apart. While Court won her 24 Grand Slams in the 1960s-70’s, Williams marked her beginning at the mid of 1990s. And claimed most of her Slam in the 21st century. Hence, fans consider Williams to be an Open Era GOAT, due to her strength, courage, dominance, and level of competition. However, the controversial debate found its catalyst in Margaret Court’s opposition to same-sex marriage and the support of gay conversion therapy.

Moreover, what’s more special about 2017, it was the final time Ohanian watched his then soon-to-be wife lift the Australian Open glory! Alexis Ohanian credits Serena Williams for his transition into a sports lover

The Ohanian tennis fans see today is an avid sports lover as he now owns two sports teams. However, this was not the case almost a decade ago when he first stepped into the 2015 Roland Garros arena to watch Williams dominate the French Open to victory. But that moment hooked him to the sporting world. Though he may like the NFL, he considers tennis as the most pure of all!

He said, “I didn’t watch tennis until I started dating my wife. It was very much a football-like NFL household. NFL was it and I thought that was the only sport that mattered. Then I came to watch tennis. It’s one of the big sports, it’s the most pure what people wanna see is two people being the best and a winner and a loser. And it feeling as objective as humanly possible.”

Serena Williams has done a great job of keeping Ohanian up to date with the sporting arena. He has come a long way from not accepting tennis as a real sport to considering it pure!
