Can you relate to Alexis Ohanian's bittersweet feelings about watching your kids grow up too fast?

It was supposed to be Serena Williams’s day at the ESPYs. However, with her iconic stare and styling, her daughter Olympia tackled the paparazzi with the utmost grace. And now the 6-year-old has even started handling things with her father through “mind games.” Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian is more than happy to give their daughter the best to fulfill their wishes. However, he dreads the day that the eldest child would spread her wings to explore the world as a grown-up!

From cooking her favorites- be it creative pancakes, or brisket- to baking together, playing video games, and even going for mani-pedis, he is certainly a good dad, as the return gifts are the sweetest hugs and kisses, and sometimes even the surprising ‘I love you.’ The angel investor couldn’t be more happy as he raves about the importance of being a hands-on father on his podcast, “Business Dad.”

However, as the wheel of time turned to 6 for Olympia, this business dad had something new to worry about: Olympia growing up. And he opened up about this on his recent podcast. Certainly, a father who receives his kisses and loves you daily makes it to the category of not being a good father, but the best one out there. Ohanian confessed on his podcast, “Now I feel like a great dad. That makes me feel good. When you think about where this goes from here, you illustrated this well at the jump, and there’s a chart.”

What is he talking about? The chart of life, if one could think of, as there is a time when your kids need you the most. But there also comes a time when they want to explore the world on their own. And Olympia’s dad dreads the coming of that day. He said, “It’s like a visualization of your life. And it’s the amount of time you will spend with your kids, right and it just plummets once they turn 18.” Did he overestimate the age to be 18? Maybe/maybe not, but he is not happy to acknowledge the fact that his daughter stares at him with glaring eyes every day.

He said, “Generally speaking, are there ways short of putting this chart on my wall to stare at every day while I’m at the office? Are there ways to keep mindful of this idea of just how fleeting it is? Because it’s so easy in our life in, you know, the work trip here, the deadline there. How do we remind ourselves of this in order to snap ourselves back, because these years are, you know, they’re fleeting.”

Of course, working parents have their own merits and demerits, but Ohanian seems to be managing it very well. The father makes sure that he takes time for both of his kids. However, an avid supporter of paternity leaves, Ohanian rues the time when his children would grow up.

Have an interesting take?

It seems that the Reddit cofounder has added a new outing to their father-daughter routine. A mani-pedicure outing! Ohanian opened up about the recent adventure with his daughter and the outcome was all love for the entrepreneur. He certainly loves to be on the receiving end when it comes to hugs and kisses from Olympia. And certainly can’t wait to spoil the youngest member of the family, Adira.

However, under all the father-daughter dates, and the love there is another thing that Ohanian thinks is happening. He said, “Maybe she’s just already figured out how to play me and see what (gets) more spa trips with Papa. But I’ll take it. That unsolicited ‘I love you papa’ when we got home was just the best, man.”

Whether she has him figured out or not, Olympia and Adira’s dad is happy to be there for his daughters. But he certainly would want time to move a bit slowly, so that the father can enjoy every moment heartily!
