“My little sister, Serena, told me I’m not allowed to quit,” Venus Williams said, postponing her plans to retire from professional tennis. The legendary sisters have held each other’s backs since childhood. Serena Williams, who recently had surgery to remove a brachial cyst behind her neck, is still keeping her social media status green. Besides a caring side for her sister Venus, Serena also has a cheeky side that is rarely witnessed by the fans. In the midst of her surgery recovery, the legend freshly injected some humor by poking fun at her sibling.

Serena Williams recently had some fun on Instagram by taking a playful jab at her older sister Venus. The 23-time Grand Slam champion posted a picture of four oranges, one of which appeared rotten, with the neighboring orange starting to spoil as well. The post carried a life lesson with the caption, “Who you surround yourself with matters.” However, Serena decided to put a humorous twist on it. She jokingly blamed Venus for being the bad influence in her life. She captioned, “Noted. Will stop hanging out with @venuswilliams,” calling her elder sister the ‘spoiled’ one in the family.

This wasn’t the first time Serena unleashed her hilarious side on her elder sister. Back in March, she shared another story that read, “Cockroach milk is much healthier than cow milk.” Serena couldn’t help but poke fun at their shared childhood in Compton, writing, “@venuswilliams all that time in Compton we had the secret, now everyone knows lol j/k.” The post was a nostalgic throwback to their tough upbringing, where they trained on public courts under the strict guidance of their father, Richard Williams.

Despite their humble beginnings and challenging circumstances, the Williams sisters have built a legacy that goes beyond tennis. Venus’ $12 million Reebok sponsorship at the age of 15 was a turning point in their lives, but the memories of their early struggles remain. This cheeky side of them shows how the two sisters grew up sharing all kinds of emotions with each other. However, besides the fun banters, Venus also acknowledges Serena’s role in shaping her tennis career.

Venus reflects on Serena Williams’ influence in backing her Grand Slam Journey

Venus Williams, promoting her new book Strive: 8 Steps to Find Your Awesome, took a moment during an appearance on Virgin Radio UK to reflect on the impact her younger sister Serena had on her career. Despite being the first to make it onto the professional tennis tour, Venus explained how Serena’s achievements inspired her to chase Grand Slam victories of her own. Venus shared, “I had the honor of having great company in Serena, and I learned so much from her too because she was younger and the first in the family to win a grand slam.”

Serena, who captured her first Grand Slam title at the 1999 US Open as a teenager, unknowingly became a source of inspiration for Venus. The five-time Wimbledon champion revealed that Serena’s courage, character, and fearlessness were qualities she quietly absorbed by simply watching her younger sister compete. “I learned so much from her just by watching without her even saying a word. By her courage, character and her fearlessness, I said, ‘I want that too. That’s how you win a major,’” Venus reflected, showing how her sister’s actions spoke louder than words.

Venus highlighted that, at just 17 years old, Serena might not have realized the influence she had. “I don’t think Serena knew at the time because she was 17 years old, and what do you know at that age?” Venus said with a smile. But even without saying anything, Serena’s positive actions and breakthroughs in the sport made an unforgettable impression on her older sister. Venus’ success followed soon after, driven by her desire to achieve greatness, just like Serena.
