Every parent has a distinct way to interact with their kids and family. And the same can be said for Serena Williams‘ husband and entrepreneur Alexis Ohanian. The Williams-Ohanian household welcomed their fourth member, Adira River Ohanian a few months ago. The Reddit co-founder is back with parenting tips, although his style may turn heads in astonishment. Serena Williams’ expression has certainly turned disapproving!

Everyone who follows the Reddit co-founder knows that he has been a hands-on father to Olympia, and now to Adira as well. Moreover, Ohanian has been vocal about not only supporting women’s sports but also the paternal rights of new fathers. But while the entrepreneur might have good advice for some, his wife frowns on it.

In a recent podcast with Business Dad, Ohanian shared his plans for being more involved with the kids and family. However, his parenting method stems from startups, he disagrees with the fact that he is trying to turn his family into a startup! The father of two wants to implement the best parts of a ‘high-performing organization’ into his family.

As he talks about his family planning, “I promised in 2024 it would become much more rigorous…I’m not trying to turn my family into a startup I promise, but I want to take the best parts of running a high-performing organization and try to bring them into running a high-performing family.”

Although he accepts that the idea may not be appreciated by people who do not belong to business and may call him ‘Dorky‘. But Ohanian is all-in for extra and intentional communication with his kids. As he further added, “This idea of over-communicating, of planning, still having some flexibility but like making intentional time, both when you’re spending it with your kids, and then even when you’re planning that intentional time, it makes a ton of sense.”

High-performing organization to the high-performing family idea makes sense to Ohanian, but the American tennis legend is not on the same page as her husband. And Ohanian knows it, as he had revealed in an earlier episode of Business Dad. 

Ohanian’s ”not romantic” ‘Start-up’ family idea

In a previous episode of ‘Business Dad‘, Ohanian revealed Williams’ dislike, when he calls their family ‘his ultimate startup.‘  The entrepreneur is well aware of the dislikes he would be attracting for using entrepreneurial terms for their family. “I think my wife hates is when I call our family, my Ultimate Startup. But apparently, it’s not a very romantic thing to write on an anniversary card. Who knew? I’m not a romantic guy. But I actually I really liked this as a concept.”

Ohanian also said, “And I would draft a version for our family, based on the same idea of yeah, let’s talk about the things that matter to us… start to have this as a living doc to think through what are the things that we actually, I love that.”

Certainly, there is no stopping the father of two daughters, as he embarks on the journey to instill the best of both worlds into his family. Although the two parents may not see eye-to-eye on this topic, they undoubtedly want the best for their kids. As it has been said being parents has its own ‘ebb and flow‘ but, as Shakespeare said, all’s well that ends well!
