Tennis legend Serena Williams recently recorded an exclusive interview with Gayle King to talk about life after tennis, where she finally gave her verdict on the infamous Will Smith ‘Oscars slap’. Both Serena and Ohanian gave Gayle a tour of their house and opened up about the secrets of their happy marriage. Other than that, Gayle, editor of Oprah Daily and co-host of CBS Mornings, talked to Serena about other aspects of her life, like her father, Richard Williams.

Here’s what Serena Williams has to say about the Smith-Rock fiasco
After Gayle shows Serena a video of Richard Williams talking to young Serena about the importance of family, Serena says, “Oh, that’s so sweet.”
“I’ve literally given my whole life to tennis and it’s time for me to give my life to something else”: @serenawilliams is moving away from the tennis court — for now, at least.

Gayle catches on to the emotion in all of us and replies, “Yes, your little girl voice. That’s why you wanted people to see ‘King Richard’.”
Serena latches on to talk about the biopic, “Yeah.”
Gayle further elaborates hinting at the Oscar scandal in 2021, “Cause we did get to see him in another light.”
Serena emphasizes the authenticity of the biopic. She says, “This is literally the light that was the truth. ‘King Richard’ was absolutely true”
At the Oscars, Will Smith clinched the award for ‘Best Actor’. However, the win got lost amidst the tantalizing controversy. Retrospecting about the viral moment when Smith lost his calm and slapped Chris Rock for making fun of his wife, Gayle says, “I know. And then King Richard had that moment at the Oscars. What did you feel about that?”

Serena is quite candid with her reply. “I thought it was such an incredible film. And I feel that there was an incredible film after that with Questlove. That kinda was overshadowed.”
However, she is as kind as ever. Serena tries to understand Smith’s perspective in regard to his actions. She says, “But I also…I also feel that I’ve been in that position where I’ve been under pressure and I’ve made a tremendous amount of mistakes.”
