“I would hope she doesn’t play tennis,” back in 2018 said Serena Williams, a protective mother of her older daughter, Olympia. It seems her wish will remain unfulfilled as her six-year-old daughter is already starting to show promising tennis skills. Olympia’s amazing tennis expertise has garnered the attention of not only her mother but also her aunt, Venus Williams. Happy to see her niece’s exceptional talent on-court, the elder Williams sister exuded great confidence in Olympia’s tennis prowess.

On June 15, the New York Times released an exclusive interview with 42-year-old former player Serena Williams. During that interview, she answered many questions about her future endeavors, while also speaking about her upcoming documentary, In the Arena: Serena Williams. However, when the conversation inevitably drifted towards Olympia’s love for tennis, Venus Williams’ sister had an interesting story to reveal. “Olympia is such a bright light, and she’s so athletic, to the point where it’s just not even humanly possible. Even Venus, she was like, “That kid has more talent than you and I combined,” and she’s not lying.”

The 23-time Grand Slam champion, who once rejected the idea of her daughter playing tennis ( due to the intense pressure it involves) later admitted that she really wants “her to play at least a little bit” of tennis. Therefore, when Olympia, who shares an interest in soccer and golf, started playing “tennis a little bit more,” Williams was over the moon! Moreover, Olympia also has the supportive aunt, Venus Williams, in this regard.

However, the 2003 Australian Open Women’s Singles winner’s enthusiasm for Olympia’s potential career in tennis is not new. When she was only 8 months old, she once revealed, “Venus said she would coach her. She just didn’t want to travel. She said that, like, yesterday or the day before.” The story does not end here.

The former World No. 1, Venus Williams, on hearing this, reflected on the matter and added, “I could be a good mental coach. In terms of a tennis coach, I don’t know if I have patience.” However, now the scenario might change, as Williams has full confidence in her niece’s talent. Although, for now, the former World No. 1 wants to rely on his father, Richard Williams, to coach her, as he further added in the interview, “Maybe you have to coach her, because I’m too nice.” Whether Venus Williams coaches her or not, either way, she is impressed with Olympia’s remarkable skills on-court!

A couple of years ago, when little Olympia was only four years old, Venus Williams expressed how special she was. The 43-year-old player never shies away from showering love on her niece. Be it comparing her backhand skills with Oracene Price (Venus and Serena’s mother) or simply spending time with her, the elder Williams sister is always there to support Olympia. In an interview, she said, “She is fantastic. She is probably the better athlete than both of us. Well, she’s scary. It’s scary. Very tall. I think she is of the size of a six-year-old. She’s very dynamic. I didn’t even start talking till I was five.”

Further adding, the seven-time grand slam champion said, “So, she is quite the opposite. She is extremely special. I was not like that when I was younger. She is something else.” Much like Serena Williams and Venus Williams, the tennis world waits to see their legacy in tennis continue through the new generation of their family, especially through Olympia.
