Serena Williams and Bestie Meghan Markle Bask in a Heartwarming Moment to Mark Duchess’ Netflix Milestone

Who can forget that lighthearted exchange when Harry and Meghan cheerfully clapped along as Serena introduced them at her opening speech at the ESPY Awards? Well, their connection has just deepened over the years. Now, just days before the premiere of With Love, Meghan on Netflix, Serena, a longtime supporter of Meghan Markle, has once again shown her affection through a heartwarming gesture.

Serena and Meghan Markle first crossed paths at the 2010 Super Bowl, and ever since, Markle has frequently supported Serena at her matches, while the tennis icon also attended Markle’s royal wedding to Prince Harry. Now, as excitement mounts before the 4th March premiere of With Love, Meghan on Netflix, Markle’s Instagram stories provide an intimate glimpse into the reality show as she shares heartfelt moments with Serena Williams.

Meghan shared an Instagram story where Serena could be seen playing with Princess Lilibet, as she wrote, “When the aunties come to celebrate…and to play! Love you @serenawilliams.” Serena later re-shared it with, “❤️🥰.” In the second post, Markle joined them in the frame, stating, “3 days until the party begins. A Netflix announcement extended an invitation to all, subsequently complemented by a heartwarming photograph appearing on both Instagram stories.

Shortly after re-sharing Meghan’s clip, Serena, who retired a couple of years ago, posted a touching photo of herself hugging Meghan Markle, as she tagged the ‘Duchess of Sussex’ as well. Meghan reciprocated the gesture by sharing the same picture on her IG story, as she revealed the official timeline for her Netflix premiere. This sweet exchange between the two ladies showcases their enduring friendship and mutual support, a true display of camaraderie.

That wasn’t the first time Meghan expressed her admiration for Serena, though. Fans may recall “The TIG Archive,” a collection of Markle’s personal writings and photos from her now-defunct lifestyle blog, The TIG. In one of her posts there, the Duchess of Sussex shared heartfelt reflections on meeting Serena Williams once again at the 2014 Super Bowl, four years after their first encounter at the same event in 2010.

“When Serena Williams barrelled in my direction this past February at an event, nails done, hair done, everything did, I’ll be honest and say I looked behind me to see who she was running to. Whose match I had watched with bated breath at the previous Open, giggling with delight to be that close to her legendary serve,” Meghan said.

Meghan recently offered a behind-the-scenes glimpse of With Love, Meghan in another post that had a brief appearance from Prince Harry himself as they stepped off set. The series promises an intimate look into Markle’s Montecito life, highlighting her passion for homemaking, creativity, and thoughtful gestures throughout her life. The entire filming took place at a farmhouse wedding venue owned by philanthropists Tom and Sherrie Cipolla.

For instance, following her 6-2, 6-2 loss to Simona Halep in the 2019 Wimbledon final, she praised Meghan’s uplifting personality and genuine support for her during the post-match press conference. “It’s so good to have people like that, just to know. such a great friend and a great person as well. And always positive, no matter what…..such a fan of the sport,” Serena said. 

In August 2022, Serena even appeared on Markle’s podcast, “Archetypes with Meghan”, where she discussed her tennis journey. During their conversation, Meghan also reminisced about their very first meeting at the 2010 Super Bowl, revealing how they instantly formed a close bond that only strengthened over the years.

“It was the same year as the Super Bowl when the Super Bowl was in New York. I’d never been to it before, and then I show u,p and I see you walking toward someone. I remember thinking, ‘Oh my gosh, who is Serena Williams going to talk to? I looked behind me, and when I turned around, you were there right in front of me. We became such fast friends,” Markle Remarked.
