Recently, Ohanian went to watch a much-awaited remake of the Disney classic, The Little Mermaid. After he watched the movie, Ohanian updated his followers on his opinions of the movie. He also added his viewpoint to a controversial argument that was ignited by the movie. 

The Little Mermaid remake rumors started flying early in 2016. But concrete news did not come out until later in the year. The movie was eventually filmed in 2022 and will release to the public near the end of this month. Along with the entrepreneur, Serena Williams and Olympia Ohanian were also excited to watch the remake of the classic.

Alexis Ohanian adds a point to heated debate

The news about the casting of Halle Bailey created a huge storm on the world wide web. Many were displeased that Bailey, being a person of color, was cast in the role of Ariel, a white character. Many debated about the move on social media, and the announcement greatly divided the fans.

Alexis Ohanian, the co-founder of Reddit, was someone who did not join into the debate. However, after watching the movie with his daughter and wife, Ohanian made his opinion known. He first told his users his excitement about being able to watch the movie at the premiere. He later updated that the movie was amazing.

His next point was about the casting. As per the business magnate, the casting was a masterstroke. He said that the new Ariel added a new angle to the old movie and that her daughter was excited to see someone like herself on the big screen.

“The “new” Ariel doesn’t erase the “old” Ariel – instead, it gives us an opportunity to appreciate the story from different angles; and I saw how THRILLED Jr. was to see herself as that iconic character. They also added some good depth to Prince Eric“.
