Jessica Pegula reached her first-ever Grand Slam final at the 2024 US Open, but fell short against Aryna Sabalenka in a tough two-set defeat. It was her “childhood dream” to reach this far at her home Slam. She might have lost the final match, but she won the hearts of millions of American tennis fans. Shortly after securing her spot in the finals, we saw her follow a similar ritual during her post-match on-court interview. Although, that time she forgot to mention her husband’s name during her speech, this time she addressed all of them.
During her post-match interview, Jessica Pegula shared a heartfelt message to her family and friends. She said, “It was really cool. I had a lot of friends that were just like ‘I’m flying in and when I’m coming I don’t care you know I’m going to get off work and all this stuff’. I thought that was really cool because I feel like you know in a way not just my journey but my friends and family have been on this journey with me as well.” She further revealed, “My family obviously but even like some really close friends who you know we’ve sacrificed a lot or even played a little bit with me when I was young. But have sacrificed a lot of things that we didn’t really get to do together.”
Incredible match. But Jessica Pegula’s dream run to the U.S. Open final falls short against Aryna Sabalenka, won a hard-fought title, 7-5, 7-5.

Pegula said, that for them to understand that she doesn’t live a normal life(as an athlete) and still trying their best to come here and cheer for her is something really “cool” to her. Shortly after the match, Pegula was also seen having a funny banter. The American said, “I wish she would have at least let me get one set.” In reply, Sabalenka was heard saying, “In the 2nd set I was just praying there. And you’re talking about me giving you one set (laughs).” So overall, it was really fun to watch these two rivals take on each other at one of the biggest stages of the game.

Jessica Pegula’s father, Terry Pegula made a rare appearance during the US Open this year. Although her parents have played quite a big role in her career, they have mostly preferred to stay away from visiting the stadiums during their daughter’s matches, but why?
Why Jessica Pegula’s parents inside the stadium during her matches is a rare sight to spot ?
Well, Jon Scott, WGRZ sports director once revealed that her father believes her daughter can beat anyone in the world when she’s fully fit. However, when it comes to watching Jessica’s matches live inside the stadium he’s always like “too nervous to watch her in person.” Even Pegula herself admitted the same about her mother during a previous interview.

She revealed, “He (dad) just tells me ‘good job. He likes to give his little recap of the match or what the opponent was doing. He might enjoy watching at home. She (mom) never watched my matches before, because she got too nervous.” In 2021, during a conversation at the Bills Pod Squad podcast, Jessica Pegula admitted, “Dad and I are like oil and water on the tennis court.” She said although he has pushed her to become a better player and encouraged her to work harder, she believes her father is a bit “old school.”
On the other hand, according to Jessica, her mother was more involved with her day-to-day activities. She’s the one who has helped her stay fit and healthy by maintaining a proper diet and regular training sessions. So, perhaps this is what she meant when she mentioned earlier about the “sacrifices” her close ones have made to help her reach this stage.
