John McEnroe had an illustrious career during his time as a tennis professional. However, his post-retirement life is also equally illustrative. After retiring from the sport in the year 1992, he has done many things to keep himself associated with the sport. The American legend is also a part of the commentator’s desk and has been featured in multiple shows. Recently, he came up with his brand new series called ‘McEnroe Places’.

The tennis icon interviews some of the players from the past and the present and explores their journeys. Recently, it was the Russian tennis icon, Maria Sharapova who attended his show. However, giving a sneak peek,  the former player showed moments of banter with the former American legend.

Recently, Maria Sharapova took to her Instagram to share some stories that gave an insight into what’s coming on the other side. The episode named ‘Coming to America’ features the journey Sharapova took when she came to the United States from Russia and took her career to great heights. She reveals the difficulties that she had to face in terms of language, culture, and everything. Despite this, she goes on to make a successful career.

In the stories shared by Sharapova, she could be seen having a great time with the former American player. They both share a friendly banter because that’s what friends do! One such case for this comes when they both look for a tennis court to practice. They find one court but Sharapova refuses to practice due to the ‘No Trespassing’ sign. Seeing this, McEnroe jokingly says, “Come on, Maria. You cross an ocean and a continent to pursue your dreams. What’s the little sign going to do?” 

Adding to this, in another story posted by Maria, she made the former grand slam winner her cameraman while suggesting that he definitely takes some good photos of her. “Good camera work, John”, wrote the Russian beauty while teasing him.

Thus, the two share a great bond which is clearly visible in McEnroe’s upcoming episode. Talking about Sharapova, the iconic Russian player has been more than just a player throughout her career.

Sharapova reveals that she was more than just a tennis player

In a recent interview, Sharapova shed light on an illustrious career that she had. However, she also said that she was not only a player but also an entertainer on the courts. “I feel like when you’re an athlete you form a connection with people and fans. I realized when I was a little older that ultimately I was an entertainer,” she said.

She also mentioned that throughout her career, she inspired many and made them fall in love with the game itself. “That impact you try to forget because there’s a lot of pressure with it, but ultimately it’s such a beautiful feeling to have that you can have inspiration on other people,” said Sharapova.

Thus, Sharapova’s impact on the sport has been impeccable. Her recent inclusion in the series gives people an insight about the difficulties that she faced over the years. Also, her banter with McEnroe shows the bond that these two have developed over the course of her illustrious career.
