When Naomi Osaka returned to the sport she loves, tennis, she only had one goal in mind. She wanted to create an example for her daughter so that she could follow through and see what a dominant player her mother is. She wished to establish a persona of herself, being successful as a woman and a player in front of her daughter, which is why she also wanted to do well in Indian Wells.
Nevertheless, things didn’t entirely go as planned for her, resulting in her bidding farewell to the tournament in the third round and dashing her daughter’s aspirations.

After losing in the third round of the Indian Wells, Naomi Osaka was obviously very disappointed. But she was more disappointed because she could not make this tournament memorable for her daughter. After her match during an interview, she commented, “Yeah, ruined her dreams.”

After claiming to have ruined her daughter’s dreams, the interviewer asked her if she was projecting her emotions onto Shai. In a befitting reply, she changed the perception of her comment and made it sound like she ruined her daughter’s dreams by waking her up from sleep.
She added, “She was going to the zoo and stuff, and we were taking her out, and she sleeps very well here.” Osaka made it sound like returning from Indian Wells would ruin her daughter’s sleep schedule and not her dreams of watching her mother play well.
In a clever wordplay, Osaka saved herself during the interview very quickly. After her talk about her daughter, Osaka also discussed her performance after her third-round defeat, comparing herself with her past performance.

Osaka claims to have improved from her previous performance in Doha
In one of her post-match conferences, not only did she talk about meeting her daughter after getting defeated, but she also reflected upon the performance that she gave at the Indian Wells. Likewise, Naomi Osaka compared it to her efforts at the Qatar Total Energies Open.
She stated, “I’m just trying not to be too hard on myself right now, but I feel like in some ways I improved a lot from Doha.” She also added to try a little harder and fought vigorously with the problems in front of her. Even though it didn’t work out well, she would love to play more matches. Hopefully, things will get better in time.
