The possibility of a Simona Halep-Emma Raducnau semi-final matchup at the on-going WTA Transylvania Open was stopped by Ukrainian teenage tennis player, Marta Kostyuk as she stunned Raducanu in straight sets to reach the semis.

Kostyuk, who defeated the likes of Garbine Muguruza and Daria Kasatkina earlier this year, was expected to have a strong run this year on the WTA tour. But, the Ukrainian might need some time to make her way deep into the slams and other important events.

However, Kostyuk will have a chance to defeat another top player in Simona Halep on Saturday in-front of latter’s home-crowd. Post a dominating victory against Emma Raducanu, Kostyuk was asked about the Brit‘s US Open victory and her reaction was quite frank and honest.

I have to be honest, it was a bit rough for me to watch, both of their runs. I’m trying to be the best I can be, so obviously I wanna be where they are & I’m sure it’s gonna happen soon but I didn’t feel very nice”, mentioned the teenage player.

Kostyuk didn’t mince words and said what she genuinely felt while watching two contemporaries play a grand slam final early on in their careers.

Since the US Open victory, Raducanu has found it hard to keep the winning momentum going as she lost in the first-round at Indian Wells and now at the Transylvania Open. Against Kostyuk today, Raducanu hit seven double faults and appeared shaky throughout the match.

In search of a coach, the British teenager had to deal with unmatchable expectations from fans as they anticipated her to have a historic run at a very early stage in her career. Even though the US Open run is historic, these losses are equally important for the Brit as they will help develop her game.
