Tennis is filled with examples of strong rivals turning into good friends over the years. Take the example of Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova. Once starting as intriguing rivals, the two soon developed a healthy bond and became the best of friends, so much so that their bond is still unbreakable. Although times have changed, this characteristic is still very much in place, as shown by the likes of Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek earlier today. As we await the start of the 2025 season, the duo engaged in a power-packed training session.
Swaitek and Sabalenka had contrasting ends to their season. While Sabalenka won the US Open a few months back, Swiatek was embroiled in a doping controversy. Nonetheless, the two are looking to start afresh and have descended to the United Arab Emirates to begin their preparations for the next season.
Today, Sabalenka took to her official Instagram handle and shared a video of her training with Swiatek in Abu Dhabi. The two were doing short sprints and kept each other on their toes, quite literally. However, Sabalenka looked swifter between the two as she showed off her agile footwork. Captioning the clip, the World Number 1 wrote, “Keeping each other on our toes.”

Meanwhile, Sabalenka and Swiatek have forged a healthy relationship in recent times. When Swiatek found herself in the middle of the doping controversy, Sabalenka backed her and called out the critics in a blunt revelation.
She said, “People are really used to overreacting before figuring stuff out, so I don’t want to leave any comments. I believe in clean sport and nothing else I can add.” This signifies the love and respect that the two have for each other now.
Nonetheless, fans are looking forward to their rivalry churning out many more unforgettable moments. The duo once described their battles and expressed what more is to come.

During an interview, Swiatek talked about her rivalry with Sabalenka, saying, “For sure, when we play against each other, I feel like it’s a challenge. I think it’s also pushing me to become a better and better player, so I think we both kind of need each other to grow.”
