Taylor Townsend is a household for American fans and one of the top achievers in the long of WTA stars. She capped off her 2024 season in style and since then, she has stepped back to enjoy her time during the offseason. However, after the 2025 touring calendar commenced in late December, Townsend, like many other players, was subjected to an anti-doping test.
Doping controversies were the key highlight of last year: two highly decorated professionals, World No. 1 Jannik Sinner and Polish Iga Swiatek, topped the community’s ‘hot’ chatter after testing positive for prohibited substances. While many players lamented the inconsistencies in decisions following their scandals, many called for a more transparent system to avoid such an instance. As always, the tour stood by their commitment to having a clean sport and carried with their routine anti-doping rounds.
Townsend enjoyed her best season in 2024. The 28-year-old clinched her maiden Slam title after lifting the Wimbledon doubles crown alongside Czechia Katerina Siniakova. A healthy boost in morale later assisted her in reaching the mixed doubles final of the US Open with compatriot Donald Young. To conclude the season in style, Townsend finished finalist at the WTA Finals with her SW19 Czech partner. Seeing as her tour-level commitments near commencement, the American star underwent an anti-doping test first.

While the exact details surrounding her doping test are still unclear, the former World No. 46 was likely instructed to submit an out-of-competition sample. Subsequently, she posted a story on her official Instagram handle showcasing the bandage she wore on the blood sample mark on her arm. For those unaware, Polish Swiatek tested positive for a banned substance following a positive dope test due to an out-of-competition sample collection. Townsend highlighted her support for the doping regulation after captioning the story – “6 am anti-doping FTW”.

She said, “In terms of balancing everything, it’s a new day every day. It’s honestly so hard and then I’ve realized my biggest struggle is when I leave because I don’t travel with my son all the time. So when I leave and I’m on the road and I’m alone I’m fine because I can create my own routine and structure and it’s all revolving around me and my schedule, but I really struggle a lot and I’m getting better, but I struggle a lot when I come back home.”
