Alexis Ohanian, husband of Serena Williams, recently bid farewell to one of his idols in the business world. The Reddit co-founder, before becoming a well-known entrepreneur, looked up to many renowned names to improve his knowledge. One of those names was the vice chairperson of Berkshire Hathaway, Charlie Munger. Unfortunately, Munger sadly passed away at the age of 99 in California on 28th November.

During Berkshire’s annual meeting in 2019, Ohanian managed to rope in his inspiration, Warren Buffet, for an interview with CNBC. Buffet and his late vice chairman have inspired Alexis Ohanian greatly and helped him go far in the investing world. Although he met the founder of Berkshire, he never got to meet the other person who inspired him.

After the news broke, Alexis Ohanian was understandably saddened to learn that one of his idols was no longer with us. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, “A legend. RIP”. Aged 99, Munger had worked on Berkshire’s board since 1978 and had been a close friend of the chairman, Warren Buffet, before they began working together.

Ohanian, an investor himself, learned a lot from the two figures. Ever since he stepped into the world of investing, he had followed the duo.

Munger’s passing is not only a blow to the team of Berkshire Hathaway but to Ohanian, who looked up to him as an inspiration. Like Ohanian, he touched the lives of many through his dedication. Once Ohanian even talked about Munger’s skills as he spoke about finance and investing as a career. He also went on to call him ‘a beast’ and wrote about him with passion.

Ohanian’s admiration for Charlie Munger can be traced back to early 2010, when he tweeted, “Charlie Munger is a beast. His latest thoughts on finance as a career, the bailout, investing, Berkshire, etc.” Later in 2019, when he had established himself as one of the leading names in the world of business, Ohanian got the chance to attend Berkshire’s annual shareholder meeting.

After the meeting, Ohanian told CNBC, “What we heard Warren and Charlie talking about here in Omaha are the exact same values that we look for in founders. The same way they look for managers that they really believe in, we look for entrepreneurs. We would love for our firm to one day have the kind of reach and impact and legacy that Berkshire Hathaway has had.”
