Danielle Collins’ coach, Ben Maxwell, has recently shared heartbreaking news on his Instagram. Maxwell paid a special tribute to his pet dog, with whom he has enjoyed a decade together, and posted a heartfelt note along with a piece of sad news. The emotional post touched all tennis fans’ hearts across the world.
Ben Maxwell, who has always guided Danielle Collins throughout her career, is going through a difficult journey in his personal life right now. He took to Instagram and posted about the demise of his pet dog. “Rest easy, little nugget. I’m so grateful you have been a part of your life for 10 of your 16 years. I love you,” Maxwell wrote in the post. Along with this caption, Maxwell posted a picture of his dog standing on a bed, looking into the camera.
However, in the next post, we see another adorable picture of his dog comfortably sleeping in a car seat. Like her coach, Collins also has furry friends, four in total! They’re called Scout, Lola (Apple Pie), Harper, and Quincy. Although she might have this similarity with her coach, Maxwell and Collins’ connection goes way beyond it.

He shared a picture of them together on Instagram where Collins is holding her trophy in one hand. Both of them, visibly happy after the final, showcased their friendship to the world. “It’s hard to put into words the relentless pursuit of victory. I’m so proud of your hard work and grit!”, Maxwell, a part-time coach of Danielle Collins, wrote on his Instagram. However, Maxwell is not Collins’ main coach. And Collins recently revealed why this is the case.
Danielle Collins reveals why Maxwell coaches her “in spurts”
The Charleston Open winner, Danielle Collins’ usual coach, is Jared Jacobs, who not only played tennis but is also a certified clinical and medical support hypnotherapist. But, apart from him, Collins also has Ben Maxwell as her coach, who frequently accompanies him during tournaments. Earlier this year, he was present during the Miami Open semifinal match of Collins, where she defeated Victoria Azarenka.

Collins, elated after the victory, introduced his part-time coach and said, “I do have a coach here. His name it Ben Maxwell. I have worked with Ben a little bit during different periods.” Collins further went on to add why Maxwell does not coach her in all her tournaments. “He’s a college coach. I get to him in spurts because of the college schedule.”
With the support and guidance of her coaches, Danielle Collins is enjoying her last season on tour. And while she concentrates on her sport, the tennis world also mourns his coach’s recent loss off the court.
